So am I, actually. I was so pleased with it, I made a large batch at the time, and am still going through it.

Next up Pen & Message Cigar, Ishida Bungu Gagome and Penland Cafe Utsurigi... Not sure these three are really dopplegangers but they look VERY similar on Hobonichi TR paper here...

Forgot to add Rikkyu-Cha but don't have a Hobonichi swatch of that one yet.

And lastly Pen & Message Saku (new Moon) and Ishida Bungu Hakodate Twighlight. I think Twighlight is a bit more indigo but again VERY similar...

From one of my reviews:

Comparison of

1. SBRE Brown

2. Diamine Terracotta

3. Diamine Brandy Dazzle w/o particles

4. Diamine Brandy Dazzle w/ particles

I find Ancient Copper looks very much like Brandy Dazzle without the sparkles...

How about this Monteverde Pink and Seitz-Kreutznach Flamingo Pink, and also the Monteverde Green and the Seitz-Kreutznach Palmgreen: They seem idential to me : ) (2nd post on fpn, bare with me if something is a bit off...)

Edit: Sorry I mislabeled my sample cards this is Seitz-Kreutznach! not the Standardgraph!

Hi Maqiulin... Thanks so much for your contribution to the thread. :D

One question thou... you wrote in the card swatches "STANDARGRAPH".. which is a different Brand (not related to Seitz-Kreuznach).

I am guessing it was a mistake and these are really Seitz-Kreuznach.

Thank you Cyber6! Sorry for that; you are right this is not the Standardgraph, but the Seitz-Kreutznach. Both German and starting with S that's where things went wrong :) I was surprised though how similar they were, they are exactly the same irl.

Yes they are VERY close. I tried not to use the word "exact same" on anything.... since unless I have proof that both brands are decanting from the same ink bottle, then I cannot say they are exact same. The word Doppelganger is perfect, its meaning is "look-alike".

Thanks again for the great pictures.

For those looking for a Mb Leonardo Red Chalk look-alike, here's another option. The new Monteverde Red Velvet is very close. Not exact, but extremely difficult to tell apart unless used together. Red Chalk writing is with EF glass nib, Red Velvet with F steel nib.

As an aside, I've tried a few of the new Monteverde inks and I'm very impressed. Horizon Blue is up there with some of my favourite blue Sailor inks. Bright, saturated, smooth. I'm testing in a TWSBI Eco at the moment for ease of cleaning, staining potential etc.

I've been using Monteverde's Red Velvet for the last couple of weeks and I've noticed something odd. On Tomoe River this ink exhibits the exact same properties as Franklin Christoph's Urushi Red (although I don't think they are an exact match). Both of these inks turn a rather flat brown when dry, but they only do this on Tomoe. Has anyone else noticed this?

Lgsoltek, I really enjoy your copperplate. The forms are so elegant and you have the line variation of a dip pen, though usually with fountain pen ink -- which I find difficult to stick to a dip pen nib. Out of curiosity, what kind of pen and nib do you usually use for your ink reviews? The comparison above of Diamine ancient copper and KWZI flame red, for example.

My Flame Red sample looks very different from the picture above. Strange. I wonder if I got the right sample?

Thank you Bob. My letterforms are still way too far from perfect. :D

For the Ancient Copper sample, I used a Pelikan M200 with a M400 nib turned into "full flex" by Richard Binder a couple of years ago.

The Flame Red is written with a Pilot 912 FA nib, although the nib, having suffered for a long time way too much pressure from me, has developped small cracks at the breath hole. And I managed to make it even worse by dropping it on the floor thus bending the tines. I tried bending them back but now it still writes in a weird way.

Lgsoltek, you clearly know what you're doing with those pens.
