Battle Of The Inks - Doppelgänger Edition

For those looking for a Mb Leonardo Red Chalk look-alike, here's another option. The new Monteverde Red Velvet is very close. Not exact, but extremely difficult to tell apart unless used together. Red Chalk writing is with EF glass nib, Red Velvet with F steel nib.

As an aside, I've tried a few of the new Monteverde inks and I'm very impressed. Horizon Blue is up there with some of my favourite blue Sailor inks. Bright, saturated, smooth. I'm testing in a TWSBI Eco at the moment for ease of cleaning, staining potential etc.

Woo hoo. I love Leonardo - thank you for the tip off :)

Monteverde Blue Black and Black have always been in a pen or two. I'm curious to see how the new formulations look.

Here's Goulet's comparison & matching of the old & new Monteverde inks. From the ones I've used I'd say Monteverde has listened to criticisms about their range, put a lot of effort into improving the colours, behaviour & feel of the inks.

The photo makes it easier to tell the differnce: BP has a slightly greyish tint to it. It's really hard to tell them apart.

The Herbin has a lovely dark edging . . .

It does, but some people are less keen on J.Herbin inks because of their bottles. J.Herbin Blue Pervenche is a lovely ink though.

It is VERY similar... I will need to compare my own. But with the right paper, I am sure they are like twins.

The sheen will be quite different, Sydney has the classic sheen of blue inks... (reddish)... while Northern has a silver/golden sheen to it.. ;)

Found you a pair of doppelgängers, guys:

My bottle of Sydney is too wet and prone to feather. So far it only sheens (but brilliantly) on Tomoe River papers.

I've just noticed how close Noodler's Forest Green is to GVFC's Moss Green. It's not a doppleganger exactly, as the Noodler's lacks the sheen and that lovely dark pooling but colour wise its really very similar.

Diamine raw sienna was written with a 1.5 mm stub, and KWZI honey with a 1.1 mm.

Sorry Bobje. I don't seem them close at all.

Sienna is so brown (in comparison) that I can see red in it.... Honey has none.

You may be right, C. Maybe this is Doppelganger's Bruder! Or Doppelganger himself, after an afternoon at the beach.
