Hari, I'll take your word for anything on pens as a start.

So I guess the Imporium don't fit the Persona front section....in I was looking to cheap out with getting an Imporium section and nib with out buying the full pen.....the nibs won't swap out between the two of them.

I am much impressed with the Imporium nibs.

So much for Plan A.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

How is a modern Pelikan 800 barrel attached to the section? The disassembly videos that I've seen on YouTube talk in terms of the section and barrel being a single piece. Not being a Pelikan owner (but hoping to be -- or, at least I was), I thought perhaps the section screwed securely into the barrel.

Since the 800 Demonstrator version is entirely clear, is it made the section-barrel constructed the same way, or is the section and barrel one piece of acrylic? Thanks.

The method of construction is as follows: A spigot extends from the barrel. The section forms the bell. They are fused together at the factory. This fusion fails on some pens. Either as a clean detachment. Or the spigot cracks or breaks (two of my M800s) The clean detachment cases can be repaired. The latter can also be, but the repair will be more involved. Easiest is to send to Pelikan Hannover, who replace with a new barrel.

MB follows a similar concept but the joint is not permanent and it can be redone.

Thank you, I learned something. :)

The area where the section attaches to the barrel is a known weak spot. I dont think failures are endemic but they do occur from time to time. Luckily the break is often clean and can be repaired. Ron Zorn, as mentioned, does good work with this.

Pelikan does great repair work and often free of charge. The problem is, if youre a US customer, the request usually gets forwarded onto Chartpak so it can be challenging to get around. Things go smoothly once you do. Chartpak has a lot of shortcomings as a distributor and really do the brand a disservice. Their policies are very unfriendly towards both their vendors as well as the end customer. Perhaps one day Pelikan will make a new arrangement but this is what were stuck with for now.

It's unfortunate but this seems to be commonplace with a number of luxury brands sold in the U.S through distributors not just fountain pens.

Two comments.

I do repair these, clean break or no.... and no, I do not simply solvent weld or glue the section back on. A strong repair is much more involved than that. I have a couple 800s in my rotation that I repaired to do a durability test. So far i have not had a repair fail, either my pen or a clients. The charge at the moment is $65 plus return shipping.

Keep in mind that the distributor may be (and I believe is) limited by the manufacturer, and what the manufacturer will cover and will reimburse the distributor for. A factory service department often has freedoms that a distributor service department does not.

Something I'd not given enough thought too. But I live in Germany.

I had my M800 OS blue striated & M800 2013 Brown Tortoise barrel repaired (replaced?) due to the leakage at the section free of charge here. I had given strict instruction not to replace the OS cap and knob and to have that return intact which they did.

for my M800 with golden discs (old style) purchased new and developing a leak at the junction after a few years of use, Hannover honored my request to transfer the older knob onto the new barrel-filler. This pen had a long story, documented in some other, long buried under, thread.
