Best Inexpensive Chinese Pens

Mister John

Recommended Posts

I would recommend this one. It is the best Chinese pen I have ever come across. Keigelo and Jinhao simply do not match this pen. Bought it here in Pakistan for what is equivalent to USD $ 2.60. I am extremely happy with this pen. Very very smooth .Start writing instantly even after remaining capped for weeks. Good strong build too. Have a look here.

I bought a Jinhao 159 for less than $5 shipped. It is born with a M Jinhao nib which actually writes well. However, any JoWo #6 nib (like for example Edison #6, Goulet #6, TWSBI Vac700) will fit, so there's many aftermarket options if you aren't satisfied with the nib that comes with the pen. You'll have to pull out the new nib from the collar and mount it in the Jinhao pen, but that's easy.

I have a Jinhao 599c with a standard Jinhao medium nib, and I count it among the very best, smoothest steel nibs I've ever used. It compares very favourably to something like my Faber-Castell Loom. Not bad considering I paid less than $2.50 for it shipped off of eBay.

I have yet to get a bad Jinhao that didn't write perfectly, but they can be heavy and some don't post without breaking the cap liner (which I personally find a pain). I recently bought a 599 in frosted black metal and it's better than my Lamy! I've had one or two Baoer's that needed tweaking and one Wancher that should have been named after a famous kangaroo. Hero's for me have been a very mixed experience; some are great while others had to be condemned to the bin - no amount of tweaking would have made them write.

A silver jinhao x250 dropped on the mat this morning and I've been using it all day.

What a pen.

Fantastic pen for the money at around £2 shipped. ($3).

I guess you can't really go wrong with the Jinhaos...I know I haven't.

The 382 is a hugely underrated pen.

IMO, it's a classic of Chinese pens and one that any Chinese fp enthusiast should try and own.

Excellent writer with a build that defies it's price considerably.

I recently purchased a couple of Jinhao 599 (hooded nib) extra fine pens for under US$2 each, shipped (Ebay). I can't believe how solid they feel and the nibs are exceptionally smooth. You can't go wrong with a few of these as knock-around pens.
