Sheaffer Targa Trails Off With Ink.

Recently my grandfather gave me a Sheaffer Targa that had never been used before to me. I inked it up once before, but only to test then flushed out the pen. Now when I actually want to use it, it doesn't quite work, even after "priming" the feed. I would start writing then it would just trail off, as if the ink was only from the dipped feed. Please help, I love this pen and I want it to work. Attached is a picture of the trailing off. I am still a bit of a newb, so try not to be harsh if it's blatantly obvious.

 

 

EDIT: Right after I posted this it now suddenly works, but I still want opinions.

I would check to see if the feed is sitting right up against the nib, see if you can fit a piece of paper in between. If you cannot then it is fine.

Another thing is that the feed needed to get ink into itself, the sheaffer targas are very honey combed in terms of what is inside the feed.

Not so much honeycombed, but having a bunch of collector fins and a rather narrow slit. If ink was allowed to dry in the nib when put away, it's quite possible that no amount of soaking and flushing will clear things, and the writing unit will have to be opened and cleaned to get it writing again.
