OK, this is what happens if you decide to make Play-Doh with a ½ teaspoon of Noodler's Turquoise American Eel ink....

I am going to need to try it again.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Turns out I don't have very many True Blues. And of the following, some are far from true blue, and quite a few are sample vials: the Iroshizukus, and the Sailor Kobe #37 (thanks for this latter to a kind friend!). Rotring Ultramarine, which I used to have, and re-purchased NOS from fleabay, is remembered as being a nice denim color. But it's actually POIPLE, as evidenced by the chroma. It does fade down in poiple-osity a bit when fully dried.

The Old Shoe MB was bought secondhand and is clearly a blue-black, but looks blue in the bottle. I swear it does. It's there for...contrast. Yeah, that's it. Contrast. Just like the Rotring.

Tsuyu-Kusa, while a lovely color with excellent properties, seems a little pale for everyday use. Asa-Gao... just didn't thrill me.

My favorites? The classic Waterman Florida Blue, now a collector's item. And JH Eclat de Saphir. If I wanted a darker blue, Myosotis. I guess Skrip is up there, too, rating an Okay, At Least It's Inexpensive (this would be the conical-bottle Slovenia version).

These are not my finest chromas; I plead InCoSomNia.

Are my ink-bottle days behind me? Maybe. If Sailor made a true, clear blue with no green, turquoise or POIPLE undertones, I might be interested.

WOW, those look great! Thank you!

So, I liked the Kobe Island blue, Asa Gao and Florida blue the best.

Thanks...the color dynamics of the scan get really muted. The Rotring Ultramarine goes down as a surprisingly nice violet, and the Sailor Kobe 37 had a bit of green-turquoise underneath.

I really like Edelstein Sapphire (and Tanzanite), but the De A Sapphire is nice, too. To me, a Sapphire has to have some purple. The only reason I bought Diamine Asa Blue was to mix with Diamine Sapphire to make Asphire. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I know I am way behind in trying new inks, new pens, and completing the CRVs you were so kind to send. I'm in the middle of negotiations for selling my practice, which means going to work for someone else for the first time since I was a resident, so I'm very busy and extremely anxious. After it's all said and done, I'll have time to clean up the mess and get caught up.

My Tekker PPS clone arrived today. With any luck, I may have a bottle of the real stuff a week from now, and that should make an interesting comparison.

S- Thanks for commenting, I went back and looked. Way Cool.

J - that sounds very stressful. As for CRVs, don't worry, we have a whole year.

Bungbox Sapphire.

Not too impressed by this legendary sapphire. It's a good color, but it reminds me a bit too much of Noodler's blue, sans the extra money and effort to obtain it.

I've looked around for a sky blue that doesn't lean turquoise, and this ink may be it. I would like a comparison with Topaz (seems darker) or Ama-iro (More saturated?), though. Any other recommendations?

Thanks, again, for webgecko for sending me these inks! :notworthy1:

Speaking of Bungbox Sapphire versus the much more humble Noodler's blue, here's a comparison between them. I'm not telling you which is which

These are both from ink pools on Daiso paper that I cut up.

I wonder if Noodler's Blue shades as well as BB Sapphire.

I think so. I'll try to post them side-by side later, but I just used up my Noodler's blue a month ago and thus I'm using "postmortem" writing samples.

Meanwhile, I had an astonishing discovery. Blackstone Sydney Harbour blue sheens three colors - a basic pink, gold, and green.

What's weird is that everyone of those inks will sheen, even the BIC.
