What is "VGSN" in post 391? I kind of like it...

Is Konrad no longer making the Blue #4? I don't see it on his order form or at Vanness.

Konrad will be making a batch after he gets married. :)

B#4 is a stainer and yet, I LOVE IT. It was one of the ones he was going to reformulate.

Hello ink pals,

I'm intrigued with Akkerman's Shocking Blue. How would you compare its sheen to Diamine Majestic Blue and Souten? I have both and like them lots!

I love, love, love Souten, but Akkerman's Shocking Blue is also a very worthy sheeny contender. The only reservation about that particular ink of Akkerman's that the bottle's cap was leaky, and made a big mess when I got it. For no other reason than that, I tend to prefer Souten. But the two are very similar and wonderful. IMHO.

I really like this colour, made me think of surfing (though I appreciate Havasu is a lake...). As you can see, I missed the 'I' in turquoise!

Well, it looks good.

BTW, Lake Havasu isn't that blue. (It's sort of green) We do however have our own London Bridge.

The cognitive dissonance here is most unsettling.

It is kinda odd!

I'll have to check it out if I'm ever that way (from Bay Area CA originally and pop back every so often).

Here are some swabs to compare some Diamine blues. The paper is cheap & nasty, so the colours look a bit flat.

I was playing around with a bottle of ink I was given.

The bottle is labeled Aqua Ester.

The hair is a mix of ink and water, the tail is a wash, and the top is un-messed with lines

It is not waterproof in any way shape or form, but has so much variation in tone.

YMMV but Soutan is far lighter for me in most pens than Akkerman Shocking Blue. Shocking is a lovely pthalo blue (a green-blue but very very dark). As I remember it, it's sheen is pretty much a copper sheen. Very very lovely and it shades as well. Soutan has a much redder sheen, it is a turquoise (a dark one in a wet stub) and it does shade but not wildly (as Sky High Blue did).

Yea, sky and water are not the same color all the way through. We are tempted to think they are, but they are not. In the sky, it's more cerulean to the horizon, and more cobalt/indigo the further up you go. Fun times.
