Montblanc Alfred Hitchcock Red Ink

Wow. Thanks for those samples. Sadly they only make me want the Hitchcock more but I simply refuse to pay crazy prices for colored water so I am likely to end up with an alternative unless I just get lucky. I'll get what limited they have now and regular prices or wait for that Corn Poppy Red to arrive if it is coming to Korea.

I haven't heard back from the Montblanc folks yet but if they have that red i'd grab it. They still had it in the tester pen and it was pretty nice. The Joy was a bit too light for me but in a super wet pen it might be something.

Red Dragon looks okay too. I love Herbin but I can't get on with that ink. The brown in it makes it look like spoiled meat. heh.

Good luck with your find for this elusive but beautiful ink.....I too, was smitten by the colour and managed to snap up two bottles of this beautiful red ink at my local MB store when the ink had been discontinued for several months (about two years ago from memory). Before leaving the store, I asked the assistant to check if they had more bottles lying around and she replied "there are 10 bottles in the warehouse". When I got home, I tried it, fell in love with it and rang back the following week to secure more inks thinking that since the bottle was $30 each (yeah, prices are more expensive in Australia for nearly everything...) it would still be available. Her reply was "I'm sorry sir but someone rang up a couple of days ago and bought all the remaining inks!"

So there is someone here in Melbourne (I suspect) that hoarded the remainder of the Hitchcock inks! Not that I blame him/her..... Perhaps you might have some luck putting out an ad here to see if that person is willing to let go of a precious bottle.....

Lucky to have found a bottle of Alfred Hitchcock red on eBay. Probably paid more for it than I should have, but since I'm a "collector" now (I call myself that!), I am justified. Right? Who needs a new winter jacket when there's ink to collect... ;)

The closest alternative to Montblanc Hitchcock is Diamine Burgundy Rose from the Flowers Gift Set. They are almost indistinguishable.

Sadly, unless you have the Flowers Gift Set in their nice glass bottles, the 30ml plastic refill bottle isn't anywhere near as pretty as the Montblanc Hitchcock bottle. But it's the ink you want right? :)

I have Diamine Burdundy Rose inked up right now so if anyone wants me to send them a letter, send me a PM.

I now have BOTH, so I may need to do a comparison of the two. THANKS, Amber, for all the inky wonders that arrived today —including Burgundy Rose!

Well, who knew? Actually Chrissy knew! I had to see it to believe it...

YES, as a matter of fact, the two inks are very nearly indistinguishable!

I succumbed to the LE allure. I got too entranced by the JFK navy blue. It is my favorite ink but had to drop $70 (free shipping though) for the 30 ml bottle. The downside is that I start thinking, hmm, it's two dollars per ml, so is that like $.25 a page?

But I still love the ink. Actually, shame on MB for setting up a cottage industry of ink scalping.

That's great news :) Now tell me what's MB Winter Glow cheaper and still available twin?

I wish I had a perfect twin, but my thoroughly unscientific selection of color cards puts Winter Glow closest to Akkerman's Rood Haags Pluche, and if it weren't for that amazing green-gold sheen, the ink color of J Herbin Rouge Hematite is nearly just right.

The Rood Haags Pluche is a nice ink, but just doesn't have that richness of Winter Glow...

Right you are. Love the ink, but that was the last time I'll spend so much for such tiny bottles of beauty.

Well. We are all collectively taking a BIG sigh of relief

At least you're not asking for MB Racing Green

Now you have done it, HHJB will get no sleep tonight.

I think, although I wouldn't bank on this, that Diamine's Evergreen is very, very close to Montblanc Racing Green
