Parker Im Skipping

My new Parker I.M. is skipping... enough i could say.... i have tried to flush it (with water and stuff) but it skips again! What can i do? Please help!

(I use a parker converter and quink black ink)

Quink black is known to have clogging issues. Try another ink to see if that is the problem.

My second ink in my Parker Premier was one of the Black Quink cartridges that came with the pen. It started skipping. I had written enough that some light was showing through the top of the cartridge, and so I added some Private Reserve American blue to the cartridge with an eyedropper. The addition of the new ink made the pen work again.

 

I don't know that I'll go back to the Quink ink. In the mean-time, I've gone back to my converter and am using other inks. I've ordered some cartridge refill syringes, so I can dilute the Quink again in the future, if I decide to try it again.

 

I'm really new to all of this stuff, so, take my experience with a couple of grains of salt.

 

Just don't get any of the salt in your ink.

Haha, thanks for the interest! The problem may be indeed about the ink.... is sheaffer blue a good alternative? I really like the colour of this ink!

I would suggest an ink that is known to work like Waterman Serenity Blue. It is the ink that I use first in a pen to make sure it's working right. If it doesn't flow through the pen, then I know that my ink is not the problem.

Is this the same with the 'florida blue'?

Waterman Florida / Serenity blue, same ink.

 

Also make sure that you are not rotating the pen. If you rotate the pen, the slit will loose contact with the paper, and the pen won't write. This is sometimes confused with skipping.

My IM is a notorious hard starter. Unless....

Wet ink (Noodlers Black seems to play better than most I have tried) Keep it nib up. Use it more.

These are some of the things I have tried with success. It drives me bats as all my others start easy even when kept horizontal. Weird.

I bought a Parker IM Premium Fountain Pen in the Gun Metal, and it was absolutely horrible. The nib would scratch like nothing else, and it would skip like mad. After flushing it out, to no benifit, I took it back, and Parker admitted they had sold me a dodgy pen. They replaced it for a new one, which was fantastic! I think it's just which one you get.

Quink Black, or Super Quink Black ? (one is waterproof, the other is not)

You seem very new here. Do you know the baby's bottom phenomenon? That's very common problem. All you need is a bit of grinding and that's it. Or then you need to adjust the slit. New pens are quite often not working perfectly until taken care of.

New doesn't have much to do with baby bottom, some manufactures put it there intentionally assuming everyone is going to press down on the nib for flow instead of just touching.

 

But if you already checked with a loupe then, not that.

I have cheked it.. I watched some videos(sbre broun's for example) on how to recognize them..

My IM was exactly the same.

 

The only solution I found was to take a scalpel to the feed and open up the channels.

 

I had tried different inks, adjusting the nib, tines and everything else, and had almost given up before i hacked the feed.

 

Now it works virtually perfectly. The odd first stroke issue, but after that it just works.
