Esterbrook Brand Being Revived This December?

They could have at least winked and nodded at the original by supplying a section insert that screws into their section and allows the use of original Estie nibs.

They could have even had a special little tool to remove the insert with maybe the company name, initial or such on it.

I would love this, actually, but for more than just using old Estie nibs on Zombie Estsies. I'd love to have other adapters that lets me use Estie Nibs on other brands.

Imagine having a section adapter that lets me pop an Estie nib into a new Lamy, a TWSBI, or some other pens with interchangeable nibs.

Or vice versa: to be able to use other nibs on an old Estie. That would be remarkable.

With the advent of 3-D printers, this doesn't seem so ridiculous a possibility.

Kickstarter time?

It would take mere minutes to make such an adapter on a lathe. The issue will be finding other pens with a large enough bore such that you can install an adapter.

It also isn't that difficult to turn down an Esterbrook section to fit in other pens.

Should I be hyperventilating?

Ernst Bitterman:

I missed the previous post about a modern lever filler not being economical. Sadly, I admit there is a lot of wisdom in that assessment. So, maybe just keep *most* of what I propose and make them cart/converters...but then you *have* to make the section easy to take apart, so making it screw in instead of friction fit would be necessary.

Well, since every cartridge converter made today is a threaded barrel unit, this is easy, and a requirement for this type of filling system.

I await in anticipation to see who all the retailers are. I for one, was not contacted.

You don't bother to contact one of the best known Estiebrook experts who Also Happens To Be a pen retailer??

What the heck were they thinking?

to be fair I have not contacted them either.

With what we have seen and heard so far, I Completely understand why you hadn't contacted them.

However, for the life of me, I don't know why They haven't contacted You. It does appear to match their display of bidness acumen so far.

mehbeh they're quietly listening and retooling per suggestions, while stocking up on fleabay nibs?

just call me me an eternal optimist

; )

Two thoughts come to mind:

1. Retooling to put out a classic honorable Esterbrook SJ, LJ, J or Dollar pen style might be one of the smartest things they could do at this point, but only if they absolutely NAIL it.

2. If the updated release is only going to be mid-December, or even Christmas, they aren't doing #1. And if they ARE, its being rushed and they won't NAIL it...so yeah.

I bet there's just been some delays with the factory in _________. You fill in the blank....I know where I *assume* they are being made...but I truly hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see "Made in USA" on something for a change...

What I would like to know is why the new owners of the trademark are keeping their cards so close to their chests about this on this forum. As others have already pointed out, one would think they would try to curry the favor of the enthusiasts by involving them in the lead-up to the grand opening. We don't even know who the retailers will be…except that they will not be the main Esterbrook experts out there.

For what it's worth, the photos I have seen so far do not impress me at all. This resembles a kit pen with the Esterbrook name and a nib that is too unclear for me to decipher. I am as curious as the next guy or gal, and I love my Esties, but this is ridiculous.

I almost feel like the Ricardos and the Mertzes in an episode of I Love Lucy driving along some country road and looking at the signs leading them to a cafe…10 miles ahead….5 miles ahead…2 miles ahead….1 mile ahead….100 feet ahead…50 feet ahead, only to see the final sign "you just passed the cafe." Or something like that...
