Esterbrook Brand Being Revived This December?

Brian...or Hobiwan...how could you let the trademark expire without buying the name? Achhhh!!! I bought one of those pseudo-revived 1930's pen. Discovered it was just like hundreds of other Chinese pens. I'd have volunteered to find an empty factory in New Jersey...in Camden, even.

Reduced a Levenger True-Writer from 5 1/4 inches to about 5 inches and you have a J. Use a cartridge / converter feed and you'd have a modernized Estie. Same principle as Syd's new Skylines.

As they say, in all my spare time... Never suspected it would have ever been a possibility, and too busy running my own business to add "Pen Manufacturer" to my list of talents. :/

Just seeing the new "J" pens through that Facebook link. Hopefully, the next time they update the design for these, they'll do something that took companies so long to figure out when relaunching or revamping an existing brand: reach out and listen to the original fans. At least a nod towards a cap jewel. Changeable nibs, even better. Something.

Curious how they'll actually write. Someone please test one when it comes out next week.

Assuming you can even get ahold of one. If they're smart they'll have already sent them out to some noteable reviewers.

Edit: and not surprising enough, it appears while there are comments on the picture, I must be blocked from being able to comment on their page.

They probably won't get around to answering the question here (as it's been asked a number of times, but usually gets removed, or someone saying to email them) : https://www.facebook.com/153384988067149/photos/a.816203245118650.1073741826.153384988067149/822039167868391/?type=1

I was able to find a few of the original J model pens last night on eBay. I noticed a few on-line sellers still have them as well.

I'm stocking up, I think the original ones will become collector's items.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

My PM box is usually full. Just email me: my last name at the google mail address.

A few? I counted well over 100 on Ebay this morning. And that wasn't half of them.

Am I missing something?

IF they're smart?

You mean the same smartness that has them trying to use 21st century technology (net) in their marketing, where they either won't answer

any questions or censor the questions Gone?

THAT kind of smartness?

Bruce in Ocala, Fl-that "J" looks hideous, what is with that stepped section mess?

I just don't get it. It's not the pen that is being revived, just the name. Heck, they could name it anything they want. As the old saying goes, "calling a mule a horse does not make it one".

You're missing that Farmboy has a dry sense of humor...

Yes. Not to worry, though.

Yea I'm wondering as well, if it's just naming rights sold and has no relation to the original either in design or product.

And if it is a knockoff, has esterbrook as in the brand been so dead that there would be no repercussion?

For knockoff, just to try them, i ordered a Parker look alike from fountainpenrevolution.com. I don't think the metal parts cut it for anyone.

I bought all that were left in Ohio. Went table to table and cleared everyone out. ;-)

I'm glad I started early! I ended up with 6. I just wish I'd had the money for the bag of 15 that was there the first day. Did you grab that train wreck of a gray Dollar pen across from you? I was tempted, but it's beyond my knowledge at this time.

I didn't see that bag. I got some in a $10 box as well as several people who sold them to me at the table. ish I could have, but there are so many pens at a show...

:P True... how silly of me not to notice that. :D

Even if they weren't renewing the name Esterbrook, and just simply selling a "retro" pen, as a new company the way they're going about social media advertising and then trying to censor questions such as where are they made doesn't bode well. I think if they weren't using the name Esterbrook, people wouldn't likely care as much if they were made in the US or in China. But since they are not only renewing the name but even the model name (ie: The "New J"), there's a certain expectation that they'll either be like the old ones, or that they're lease "Made in U.S.A." like the classic ones.

all that time to type that out when they could have answered my question and not tried to make me email them so they could tell me

Their lack of answers speaks volumes.

I don't even like the shape of the new pens, they are just trying to cash in on an old and collectible name. Sadly I don't think the new pens have anything in common with any of the original Esterbrooks.

These pens, from what I can see, are Esterbrook in name only. Just another cheap Chinese pen built by someone who happened to buy the Esterbrook name.
