Even if Brian disagrees if Still befuddles me to no end that they wouldn't have asked Anderson pens to be a retailer.

In my mind, The Quintessential What The Hell Were They (not) Thinking.

(And since apparently, it's the same guy that did the Conklin redo, he Is someone who Certainly knows who Brian is.)

With this kind of grammar, I'm not surprised...

Would someone like to explain how exactly the rebrand encompasses the ideals of the original? I mean, there surely must be something about the originals that keeps enthusiasts buying them. Is that certain 'something' incorporated in the new designs, or is it simply a case of using a an established brand name to sell a product? Genuine questions.

Simple, short answer: not at all.

From what I've seen and heard, it's nothing more than someone buying up a brand name and applying it to a batch of pens totally unrelated to or influenced by the original pens.

Plus look at the history of the company that bought the name.

This is turning into a prime time soap opera.

I can't wait for the final season of it.

Now that the pens are up on Fahrney's, it's clear that there isn't even a gold nib on the "Deluxe", their $350 offering. Buyers are supposed to choose this over an m400 or a Custom 823.

I completely agree, and the $70 Js don't look all that entirely different than a modern Conklin Glider I used that long ago, almost identical nib engraving (Though I think Harpen Brand revised Conklin too before selling to Yafa if I remember that correctly).

Simply put, at that price that pretty much insults the Esterbrook design of the past (especially seeing as they plaster their site with old ads), any other pen is more worthwhile.

PS: I noticed they're still removing comments, they removed a few that didn't care for the design, as well as removed some that asked where the pen is made. There's one of those questions still up but it's real recent.

#5 nibs from Edison pens unscrew and fît in other pens. A lot of #6 nibs are interchangeable these days. This follows on from the ESTERBROOK legacy and this would have been the least they could do in reviving the brand.

If they are the same nibs as Conklin which I sort of suspect they may be, then it's going to be unfortunate in the sense of being able to change out the nib with something like a Jowo #6. Since they don't seem to *quite* fit right.

It'll be interesting if anyone wants to take a chance in reviewing either of them (though they could probably send a couple out to known reviewers if they didn't think it might actually hurt them).

This is the same person who tried to start the “NEW” Chilton pen and the “NEW” Mabie Todd 3 or 4 years ago, and who tried to run the latter day Conklin in the year before it was taken over by Yafa. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

So where are they today , Hmmmm

Given the discourse on this thread, do we even really care? B)

I'll admit that I took a peek at the "new" Parker Vacumatics (again, using the term loosely) and I *might* try one at some point. But I would not begin to pretend that it would be in the same ballpark as as my vintage Vacs. And I considered trying a Mabie Todd Gramercy last week, as I thought it was a fairly nice looking pen -- only it ended up being a much heavier pen than I expected from the size, and decided not to dip test it. I'm still waffling on the new Conklins (there are some nice colors on the Herringbones), but at the moment I could spend $100+ on one, or get something vintage for less, or save my pennies for the new Pelikan M200 (the coffee and cream one).

As for the new Esties? I'll pass.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

That's it. They bought the Esterbrook name and are using it to market a product.

The new ones look like kit pens to me.

I'm still fascinated at the stir this has caused among a group of people claiming not to care.
