Reassembling A Cross Ballpoint Pen

Recommended Posts

My wife's cross ball-point pen has come apart. The press-fit assembly is no longer together. I have 2 washers, one gold, one black, and a spring, and of course the barrel and the rotating part. The Cross refill has broken where the metal meets the plastic and the plastic will not come out of the rotating assembly that should be press fit in the barrel. Does anyone have a assembly diagram? How do I get the plastic end of the refill out of the rotating assembly? I have tried to turn it crosswise and it will not come out. My Cross pen accepts refills with very little effort so I was surprised at this one.

Can you post a picture? What type of refill does the pen use and what model pen is it? If it is the refill below, I'm not sure without seeing it how the refill is able to break. The plastic on the end of the cartridge unscrews counterclockwise. The plastic is also able to be pulled straight off of the actual refill.

What happens with twisting the plastic piece either direction? Is it stuck or does it keep spinning around and around?

The blue plastic top to the refill is only push fit on the refill, but it does thread with 2 turns into the metal inner tube, so there is no reason why it should not come out.

You will know there is an inner part to the twist mechanism, where the blue refill top threads, so it must be turning, as it's not (glued?) at the bottom end (with the washer/spring parts.)

I would think the order is (going upwards) spring, washer, twist mechanism.

The answer for a 'proper job' may be to send it to Cross service dept, they would repair it, under the guarantee.

My grey Century Classic came apart the same way. Because the pen color is discontinued as of 2005 they cannot fix it. They will replace it with a new chrome one,  gratis. Still searching for parts diagram to try to reassemble myself. 20221004_140623.thumb.jpg.59ce3925c2cbeaee32bb3380d37b202a.jpg
