Stipula Splash

I have a Stipula with a T-flex. It's actually a really, really fine pen and writes beautifully, but the claims of it being flex are......well, I have to be honest, it's a bit of a lie. There is a strange spring to the nib so that there is a very slight line difference with the minimum of pressure but any added pressure seems to make no difference to the thickness of line. Both the Ahab and the Falcon are far superior in their flex and neither of these are particularly great in my opinion. The closest thing I can compare the T-flex to is a MB BB nib with its variation, just don't think of it as flex (which of course begs the question as to why that ever came up in its name in the first place!)

I was tempted by the Splash when I heard about it, but as soon as I set eyes on it I decided against it. It looks to me like an incredibly ugly pen and my experience of the T-flex didn't fill me with great hopes for its abilities. Glad I didn't splash out.

I was excited when I learned that Stipula was offering a flex pen. Almost pulled the trigger on buying one, now I'm glad I took the time to read about it thoroughly. Wonder if the Stipula Twister is a "hit" and not a "miss" as described by some.

I have a number of Stipula pens and am very pleased with them -- I just received the SLASH and I am very disappointed -- i would not have bought it if i had

realized how small it is. The flex is nothing like the several Stipula "T" nibs I enjoy

On close examination -it was obviously a Dollar 717 (i have several Dollar 717s) the parts are identical except for the clip, feed and nib -- and the nib is not up to the quality of the several Stipulas in my collection. The caps are interchangeable -- meaning the dimensions are the same -- including the threads

I got my Stipula Splash from Goulet Store and I am very disappointed -- I would not have bought it if I had

realized how bad balance it is (Piston filler feels heavy in the bottom). About the flex nib is nothing like others nibs I enjoy...it is scratchy (scratchy= I do not know is this "railroad" meaning...)

I also got sucked into the promise of flex from a sub-$100 pen not made by Noodlers. I got a really good deal on the pen direct from a yafa rep at a local pen fair so I was pretty excited, only to be disappointed by how horrible the pen railroaded and how cheap it felt, including oily residue hung up above the piston which began sucking in up into the area as well. Luckily, I was able to return it for store credit which I used to buy a bunch of things, including another Noodler's Ahab. Sorry Ahab... I will never cheat on you again.

+1 vicknish. The pen writes. And that's about all I can say, save to add that even in my smaller hand, it feels as if it's a child's practice pen. The fact that it's a demonstrator with a different view of the component parts is interesting, but doesn't make up for the pen's shortcomings. Only to reiterate what others have said, (and wiser minds to whom I should have listened,) if you want a quality, flex pen, Noodlers will be more than happy to oblige you, and you'll be far happier in the long run.

What would you consider the worst fountain pen and worst ink (that functions in fountain pens) that you own? Also what pen would you NEVER under any circumstances recommend to ANYONE

* Stipula Splash

* Bright yellow ink

Gee, if Brian Goulet thought the Stipula Splash was the worst fountain pen ever, why did he allow Goulet Pens to sell the pen for so long? I'll bet Goulet Pens lost a lot of customers that ended up with that rip-off of a pen.

To be fair, I think Brian Goulet was talking about the Splash 'with the benefit of hindsight'. But I agree, it shouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes with pen in hand to work out that US$70 was a rip-off!

"To be fair, I think Brian Goulet was talking about the Splash 'with the benefit of hindsight'." Huh? It is his company that was selling the Stipula Splash pens for some time. He must have known the pen was a rip-off the whole time because as you put it, "...it shouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes with pen in hand to work out that US$70 was a rip-off!"
