Golden Brown - Diamine

To be honest I'm not the biggest Diamine inks enthusiast - I like the colors and their diversity but the inks with stunning, intense color made by Diamine seem to cause troubles, like nib creep, nib crud, drying on the nib, "eating" the feed (Ancient Copper, Syrah, Kelly Green, Orange). Not all of them are really FP friendly.

Happily Golden Brown has stunning color and is well-behaved. It's one of my favourite Diamines.

It would be interesting to compare Diamine Golden Brown with Noodler's Golden Brown. Looking at the ink comparison tool on Goulet Pens the colors look nearly identical. I've used Noodler's golden brown quite a bit for correspondence and really liked it's shading but it smudged even when dry. Have you used both inks?

Yes - I used both and I like both. If i woukld have to choose I would choose Diamine because I like the color better. Noodler's on the other hand has better shading but less consistent color (it looks different in different nibs and on different papers).

Thanks for a nice review of a very appealing brown. I also prefer browns with a yellow or orange base as opposed to red bases. That's the first I have ever heard of Diamine giving problems (other than some staining and clogging issues with Sargasso Sea), that I and several others have only experienced with some of the Noodlers inks. I have used Noodlers Golden Brown with semi-good results. NGB seems to prefer wide wet nibs for any shading, It dries lighter than when wet. My two bottles of NGB, from apparently different batches, have shown distinct differences of saturation. I'll have to try Diamine's Golden Brown and see if it does better..

Back in time... eons ago, when I started enjoying all colors of inks.. I fell in love with Noodlers' Golden Brown and its dramatic shading. I had the opportunity to own Diamine Golden Brown.. but in comparison to Noodler's it didn't do it for me.

Now.. I totally went gaga for Diamine Sepia.. and still to this day I love the color and shading of Diamine Sepia.

(The swatches reminds me of Ina Ho, which I love... I might give Diamine GB a second chance.. ;))

Thanks for another great review.

Great review! I dislike gold but this is interesting... I thought "steampunk"!

I've always enjoyed this ink. my experience was that it went on with a distinct yellowish hue but dried to a very neutral light brown with an almost blackish-brown aspect to it.

It's so dry it's like writing with sand. Even drier than Pelikan Edelstein Garnet. It's the only ink I've ever chucked away.
