Reasonably Priced Delta Pens On Ebay

As a matter of course now, if I get a new Delta, I pull the nib assembly out and check the feed, making sure it is completely clear with an interdental brush and a light swish of soapy water before rinsing and putting it back.

Ok here is an update on the pen I shipped out for repair in May. I went back and forth with Martemodena for several months. At first they said they had sent the pen back, but later found out they had not. They said they were looking and in early July found the pen had been sitting at Customs since May. I continued to wait for some information on the pen, but there was a bit of silence (maybe 8-10 days). So, I contacted American Express and Delta and told them what was happening. After a couple of days I saw that American Express was working with paypal to get my money back and Delta must have contacted Martemodena, because they emailed, said they had my pen, but since I had been waiting so long, and there would be another 20 day repair delay, they would send a brand new one.

The new one is beautiful and writes well, but it is appears a bit shorter than my original. However it posts to ~7 inches which matches the specs. Interesting. So now I have two Oro pens. I purchased a piston after I thought the other on was gone, and now I have an oversized too. I'm testing it out now. This one is a beautiful, deeper orange color than the piston and the writing is superb.

I would buy from them again. I purchased an Adivasi 1KS/S and it is sweet, has stub nib. Very nice. So next time be very careful with the shipping. I used USPS since UPS and USPS with tracking were well over $100 to ship back. So I took a chance shipping it untracked. It had a customs number but that was it. Next time work with Martemodena and maybe they can arrange cheaper shipping. Before I think I used them for an initial return and there was no coast to me.

One thing, I would check their web site against against the price on eBay. Sometimes there is a bit of a difference in price or the web site has pens that eBay does not.

regards

It's an interesting brand in that respect.

Very good pens.

I must say my experience tells me they are not good pens. I sold on my Delta Capri Marina Grande and Dolcevita because of poor QC issues. I have better experience with Jinhao than Delta pens. Pretty awful quality.

I think there may be some quality issues dealing with consistency. Then pens I have recieived (if I remember correctly) all write great out of the box. The issues are with other things like body quality. Repeatedly I have had body quality issues with different pens. When I pay hundreds for a pen, I expect a superb product. I can spend $20-$70 and get ok to good quality.

I know what you mean. I think that the downside to purchasing a hand made product is that sometimes there will be slight inconsistencies. I love my dv oversize but it didnt write well out the box which is the 2nd delta that ive had that problem with and i had it with my omas paragon. I think they test the nib but they dont fill it and therefore any flow problembs wont be noticed

If everything goes well with the one I just received, I may put it on sale in September. I want to ink it once and test it out and make sure it is ok. I have a piston I bought on amazon, but the color of the one from Martemodena is a more vibrant orange and the nib detail and flow are sweet. But hard to justify keeping two full orange DV.

I'm in the UK and I have purchased a Delta Dolcevita Mid-size from the same seller. Everything was fine and as advertised. The product is beautiful and writes incredibly, though I have found Delta's nibs to be a bit broader than most. I did notice though, under a loupe, that there was some marring on the vermeil finish. This cannot be seen in normal use and is certainly not enough to send this beautiful pen back.

I also separately purchased the, apparently rare, Delta Carmine ink and another nib from the same seller - no problems at all.

N.B The Delta Carmine ink is NOT what I would call carmine. I think carmine should be a deep red with a very slight purple tinge. Delta thinks it should be bright violet bordering on hot pink. Be aware if you intend to buy this.

Currently my "daily pen case" holds 3 pens:

  • Montblanc Meisterstück 149 (18c M-nib)
  • Delta Dolcevita Tech&Web EOL (14c B-nib)
  • Delta Dolcevita Stantuffo Oro (14c B-nib)

Regarding the "value" of these 3 pens the Montblanc is the most precious pen. But regarding quality none of the Delta pens are worse than the Montblanc. And the Delta nibs are offering some of the best writing experiences I´ve ever had (and definitively better than the Montblanc nib).

Agree with ingolf and others about having a very positive experience with Delta pens.

Have had close to a dozen Deltas in the past 6 years and all have been great pens and a pleasure to write with.

This is not in any way meant to take away from those who've posted that they have had issues with theirs.

Have had a lot of pens the past 6 years or so with multiple pens from the same company in many cases and I can tell you that in almost any brand you can mention, there will be a few pens here and there that have issues. Would be great if all pens were perfect, but that's just not the way it is, just like with cars, computers, and most everything else one can buy.

So, it goes....

So, from this seller, Martemodena, does 'new, box not sealed' mean the pen is possibly a return?

I'm currently waiting for my Hippocratica with the magical "Fusion" nib. Just placed my order with MarteModena a couple of days ago and it's already on my side of the world this morning, in neighbouring Singapore. I'd expect to receive the pen by Monday or Tuesday. My experience with my 6 Delta pens (366, Dolce Vita Stantuffo, Israel 60, Fusion 82, Europa and Papillon) had been nothing less than stellar.

I've always wanted this pen since I'm a physician, but held back all this while due to the asking price. So I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that it's available at MarteModena at less than half the price found elsewhere, and if not because of the comments in this thread I would've thought of it as a scam. There goes my weak-willed, self-imposed pen-buying moratorium - with more than 350 pens (at last count end of last year) I believe I have more than enough pens to use even if I'm an eight-limbed octopus.

I'm afraid I might've just accessed an evil portal that I shouldn't - if this transaction goes well I'm afraid the floodgates would've been opened as I'm eyeing a few others there too! :wallbash:

Congratulations Shahrin on Hippocratica: beautiful pen. Sound like you have and outstanding collection. I admit, I do really appreciate being able to work with a piece of art. When I journal it is often a meditation, an uncovering and discovering of inner and outer self. It is often feels like the earth illuminated by the rising sun, or emerging from a dark cave and seeing a beautiful landscape. These beautiful pens facilitate that expressive act of illumination.....or I can make a grocery list (smile).

Thank you for sharing your experience...ALL. So far my three pens from Martemodena are working fabulously. The firm ultimately did a great job in making sure I was satisfied. Their overseas shipping has always been fast and the have honored their warranties. I plan to keep buying from them.

regards, Chris

PS empyrean please post a link to your journal, if possible. Between pens it may be an affordable alternative. I use my Earthworks Journal the most. I purchase and sometime cut my own paper (A5 size). When the binding ropes and closing ropes began to wear, I purchased colored waxed twine and braided them into rope, keeps the journal refillable.

So, from this seller, Martemodena, does 'new, box not sealed' mean the pen is possibly a return?

I do not know, but I am please with my pens. I was told by the firm that the pens are new, and Delta did tell me that Martemodena is an authorized seller. Also the discount is exceptional.

However, a pen may have a deep flaw (as I found out) but the company will take care of you on a return that is made soon after purchase. I had some problems with pens on initial purchase but they were quickly addressed by the firm. They will arrange shipping back for warranty service, even multiple time if needed.

My major difficulties came several months after a purchase on a return, but was eventually addressed

regards, Chris.

It's possible that the deep discount pens they sell are factory returns.

I had a love/hate relationship with Delta and had all but swore off them until I started buying from Marte Modena. It seemed that every Delta pen I bought would not write at all and required nib/feed work. It's possible that they are getting returns from Delta at a deep discount, getting the nibs flowing then putting them back out on the market.

I doesn't matter to me where the pens come from, every pen I've bought from them has written perfectly out of the box and they are the only shop I'll buy a Delta pen from.

"Getting the nibs flowing". Nope. Not necessarily. I bought a DV oversize. Didnt flow at all. However they fixed it superbly and very quickly .However the font on the cap isnt right at all even though i know by the serial number its certainly the latest serial. On a seperate note ive never ever known a delta pen to be sealed from the factory

I unfortunately agree though that i reckon they maybe returns or similar. Why did they have a la citta reale fountain pen for about 70% off retail and new in box it doesnt add up. I bought the ballpoint and it is literally imaculate but what is the history of this 10 year old pen that hasnt been used before
