My old eyes read the stamp as saying 925 G * 40.10

Well the guild stamp that starts with a star should end in two letters to show location.

Looking at the last picture at first you would indeed say 1 0, but notice the 0 is smaller than the 0 in 40, so perhaps it is an O (letter) and the 1 could be l (letter) or j. I would suggest j as the stem descends beneath the o. And there seems something like a diamond in front of the j, so that would make the imprint G*40.jo

Would that lead to a known Guild stamp?

No.

G could well be a Grifos stamp and the pen does look like their models but the two letters are always uppercase and there is no "." in a guild stamp.

Well, perhaps the OP could try the old trick to make a stamp better visible: rub chalk/talcum powder or something like that in it.

I think that the mystery has been partially solved. I received another reply from Maurizio from GRIFOS. He has identified the pen as being one that he made, but from before the time when he started GRIFOS, over 14 years ago, when he was working for another pen company. That explains why the Guild mark is not that for GRIFOS. He seems to think that it was a specially commissioned pen,and one where the buyer maybe asked for the pen manufacturer's name not to be added to the pen.

Many thanks,

Apparently he made this pen when he was working for Cesare Emiliano in the 90s... and I've sent him the nib section for a new nib... I'm sure it'll be lovely when it's done.

  • 1 month later...

My pen is still with Maurizio (I've told him that I'm more than happy to wait until the New Year as this is an incredibly busy time of the year for Grifos), and then I found this one in a local auction for a really low price. Again it is silver and looks so much like the first one I picked up. Although this also has a steel nib I do actually like the way it writes. looks like I'm starting to collect Italian pens :D

Sorry about the photo ... they were taken seconds apart and yet one looks blue? Also, this one is clearly marked Cesare Emiliano ...so no mystery.
