Lamy Safari Not Starting

Hi! I bought a LAMY Safari awhile ago and it seems to barely flow at all. When I write with it, hardly any ink comes out. So after doing some searching online to troubleshoot, I flushed it with water, then with a pen flush solution. Still didn't flow. I tried forcing ink out by twisting the converter. Still didn't flow. I hate this pen! The tines seem okay. I don't know what else to try.

I know LAMYs can write smoothly because my first one has great flow and is a pleasure to use. It's just frustrating to get a dud and not know how to fix it.

Try pulling the nib using some adhesive tape and wash the feed, dry it thoroughly, put the nib back, allow the pen to stand, capped, nib down for a few hours and see if there is an improvement

Hello Fwdlib,

I own around a dozen Safari/Al-Stars and I must say, this is an unusual problem for this particular pen.

By chance, what ink was it loaded with when it clogged up? BSB seized up a pen of mine a while back - "bulletproof" inks can also screw up a pen if you're not extra careful. Also, how long did it sit without any use?

If it is an ink problem and we knew what ink(s) you used, we may be able to recommend a suitable solvent. If it turns out not to be an ink problem, but the pen itself is defective, I would contact the dealer; if he/she won't help you, than contact Lamy, (if you live in the States, Lamy's are warrantied for life - if you use their inks - there is always a catch ;)).

Best regards,

Chris
