Sailor Jentle blue-black is reasonably water-fast (not IG, but it holds on), and gets along well with narrow points.

I can recommend this one too.

I have both Noodler's Blue-Black, Navy, and Bad Belted Kingfisher. The blue-black is really more like black-blue. Very dark, especially with a wet pen. My bottle of BBK reminds me of the type of Blue-Black I grew up with, but with batch variations as part of its security features, what I got and what someone else will get could be noticeably different. Navy is a nice color too, but mine seems a little more green than the swab over at Goulet's shows. If you wander over to Pendemonium, you'll find a color exclusive to them: Legal Lapis, which is more of an aquamarine-black....it is a color that had to grow on me, and is now one of my favorites. Not cheap though, $20/bottle as of Nov. 1.

Yes it is, Montblanc Midnight Blue. This used to be one of the best "true" blue-blacks made, just a great color. MB changed the formula for it last year, though, and removed the iron gall and left it non-permanent. it's not as good now, sadly.

I just thought I'd post a few quick pics of an informal test of blue and blue-black inks, not comprehensive, just the inks I happened to have on hand.

I apologize in advance for the image quality, they we're taken with my iPhone under mixed fluorescent and colour corrected incandescent lights. My scanner is in storage till I get my office space organized again;)

In each photo I present, from left to right, a test strip which was kept in an envelope, a strip which was placed in a South facing double glazed window in Detroit Michigan from approx. 27 September till today 1 November of 2014. A water resistance test strip in which water was, again L to R: dropped and allowed to dry naturally (room temp, no forced air, etc.) , three up and down paces with a damp sabeline watercolor brush.

I am a big fan of the Platinum blue-black, Sailor Sei Boku, and, when diluted a bit, the Noodler's Legal Lapis. Pelikan and Lamy blue blacks as well as R&K „Salix" get more than honorable mentions.

If you are writing on a Moleskine, it is Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black or RK Salix.

I couldn't agree more!

Diamine Denim is a good choice for a perfect blue-black, but Pilot Blue_Black is the best for water resistant and dries very quick.

Yes. The old MB Blueblack was quite different from the iron-gall version of MB Midnight Blue. The latter had more dye and less iron-gall. I used both and liked the original MB Blueblack best.

I have hero blue black and I would say it's a good ink. I think it's an iron gall too, but not sure. It has NOT as of yet corroded plating on my Pelikan m200 nib or my Pilot Metropolitan nib, and has been well behaved.

As for the BEST blue-black, I would have to give it to the old formula Montblanc Midnight Blue. That ink was truly special to me. If you mean inks that are still in production, then probably Sheaffer Blue Black. I don't know why but I really like it too.

Hero makes two blueblacks. #232 is iron-gall, the other one is not (I don't remember the number).

My best BB was the old style Montblanc Blueblack (not the iron-gall Midnight Blue, it's the one before Midnight Blue). There seems to be quite a few of us missing it. When it was available, I didn't have eyes for other inks.
