Who Makes The Nibs For Diplomat

I'd guess Bock....but it's only a guess.

Thanks Bo Bo, that was my expectation. The medium and fine nibs on my Diplomat Optimist pens aren't spectacular out of the box, but they're quite juicy which I like. I expect I could make them into excellent ones with a bit of time on micromesh.

The broad nib is very nice but body of the pen ( Excellence A & B ) is very heavy. I can't use it more than half an hour, hence only good for signature and taking short note.​

I always thought Sheaffer made their own nibs.......how awful that even they have outsourced.

Diplomat makes the nibs for Diplomat. They don't buy them from anyone else. At least that's what they claim.

Sheaffer now belonging to Cross will be getting their nibs from China??

 

Someone one said they went to their Collage 'book' store and all the Sheaffer pens were on sale, not the Cross ones.

It would appear Cross is getting rid of the inventory of many Sheaffer pens....the lesser sellers.

So Sheaffer will more than likely end up Cross's cheap pen, like Parker did to Wahl-Eversharp way back when.

They did of course, for nearly 100 years & even had to restart making nibs again (after most of that was wound down) when Bock had trouble producing the inlaid nibs for the Sheaffer Valor. Once Bock got that sorted that was it. I could be wrong but I believe those are the last nibs Sheaffer ever made.

 

They reclosed that part of the plant along with the rest of it and even tried to get Sailor to buy some of their nib machinery (or so was rumored).

 

There isn't a single plant in the USA making nibs anymore as far as I know. (anyone know?)

 

All of AT Cross high-end stuff (Peerless) sport Sailor made nibs.

 

Wish Franklin Christoph has bought all the Ft. Madison stuff and picked up from there.

 

How many great nibs came out of that Sheaffer factory over the years?

I wouldn't dare make a generalized statement, but at least the nib in the Diplomat Aero is from Bock, an inside source claims.

I have an unknown model Diplomat pen that has the same nib and feed as many Inoxcrom pens. I would imagine they both get the nibs from someone else. I don't know who though.
