When discussing the sane number of pens we must understand how the pens are used. People use them for work and for amusement. The number of work pens can have a rational limit. Primarily because expenses and profit must be balanced. Still an artist may need a far larger number of pens with inks of different colors than a lawyer. When we speak of amusement, there can be no sane limit. It's like having too many books in your library.

Also fountain pens are a very fortunate obsession, for they don't occupy much space. Of course, stamps are even better in this respect!
