J. Herbin 1670 Stormy Grey—A Handwritten Review

I haven't written a review or posted a new review in a while, so I thought I'd go a little beyond what I used to do (and enjoy my new scanner I got for digitizing old Kodachrome slides, which happens to also scan about ten times faster than my old one B) …)

Stormy Grey's metallic component is much more mobile in the bottle, and as a consequence takes much less time to fully integrate by shaking the bottle.

There is some buildup in pens, but after a week of testing I haven't encountered one clog.

While I think I still like Rouge Hematite more, this ink is a must buy. Well done to J. Herbin for making up for the disapopointment that was Bleu Ocean. :lticaptd:

I really tried to avoid buying more ink... but this is unbearable!!! My 1.1i nib literally cries for this ink!

Wonderful review! Gorgeous photos and beautiful handwriting!

Seeing the ink in the converter makes me think it would look fantastic in a demonstrator. Hmm...

I REALLY was looking forward to this ink. But now that I have it, I feel like I am using one of those cheapie sparkly gel pens. It's because the ink behaves in a different way than normal inks.

Most inks we like best have shading. The shading that brings about gradation of color. The best ones shade with a metallic sheen of a contrasting color that's just quite beautiful. An example is the infamous Rouge Hermatite works beautifully because the gold pools in areas of darker shading that's subtle, giving the letters a nice quality. However the sparkly bits of this ink does not pool in the darker shades of grey. It just goes on uniformally throughout the entire letter. As the result feel like a 9 year old child doing decorative craft when using the ink.

I know people are looking desperately for this ink so it might seem like I am coming across super ungrateful. I will see what it looks like when I use it to fill my Parallel pen and do further tests.

A sincere man am I
From the land where palm trees grow,
And I want before I die
My soul's verses to bestow.

All those moments will be lost in time.
Like tears in rain.
Time to die.

Fantastic picture rich review!

I would probably import one bottle for now (when I find a seller with stock) but hold off on the initial urge to get two bottles.

I have to agree with Gerigo.

The latest ink reviews leaves me a bit undecided whether it is Grey or Gold.

Perhaps it would benefit when written on a slope to the horizontal with a Calligraphy Pen.

But it does not distract from the sheer brilliance of this review. (pun intended) ☺

Looks really neat. However I think I will wait to hear if people are able to get all the sparkles out of their pen when they get ready to clean this ink out.

Thanks everyone!

I'm not too worried about cleaning the pens. If the metallic element flows as nicely as it does when writing, I have a hard time believing it'll cause issues when flushing with an ammonia solution. I'll let you know, though.

Stick it in a Lamy Safari or a broad Jinhao.
