TOMOE RIVER FOR THE WIN!

both 52 g/m^2 and 68 g/m^2 give gorgeous shading with gushing broad-point pens and NO feathering. NONE! Amazing!

Aye, it's quite the magic paper. It still has certain shortcomings, such as its translucency, the tendency to warp easily around moisture and being dented easily with writing. But otherwise it is indeed wonderful.

“I admit it, I'm surprised that fountain pens are a hobby. ... it's a bit like stumbling into a fork convention - when you've used a fork all your life.”

TR52 (Tomoe River 52 g/m^2) brings out fabulous shading and sheening. These pen-ink combinations have murdered just about every other paper I have tried them on. It's rather amazing that TR52 can handle them without hesitation or reservation. TR52 feels thinner than tissue paper or tracing paper. but it's my winner! Will try the TR68 later.

I just swapped inks on the Broad and Medium: I had Fuyu-Gaki in the Broad and Tsutsuji in the Medium. The Fuyu-Gaki was Audaciously Ravishing all papers except Tomoe River, and the Tsutsuji felt finicky and nervous under the Medium. Let's see how they do when swapped.

I've been using the Gaki in a double broad and the orange aspect really shines; far more than in a fine nib, which is what I usually used it in.

I'm getting better results with tsutsuji in the Namiki #50 Broad and the fuyu-gaki in the #50 Medium. They're both working nicely in my workhorse Maruman mnemosyne notebooks and spectacularly sheening on Tomoe River paper. Just lovin' this. Both pens are running a tad on the dry side (4 / 10) (after having been way out on the wet side (8+ / 10) with the inks in the other order, and that's mysterious. They're both ~20 years old and used before I got them, but have no visible defects under the loupe. I'll be isolating variables like how far open I leave the plunger and so on to get a better understanding. But the current situation is 99% perfect.
