Which Do You Recommend: Pilot Lucina Or The Field?

So Santa really is an amazon seller! Thought you were joking! Unfortunately his elves do not ship to Canada.

It's a matter of personal preference. Yes, the pen is light and it does not have the build quality of more expensive pens, say a Platinum 3776 Century or even a Pilot Custom 74. But the writing experience is closer to these models than the Prera, which is more in line with the Metro, Knight, 78G, etc. In fact the nibs of all these models are swappable (which might be a bonus if you are looking to get a variety nibs to fit your pen). I like both the Prera and the Lucina. However I find myself using the Lucina a lot more.

The Prera and Lucina nibs are not interchangeable. I have both.

The nib size is slightly different, the feeds are not even close to the same size, the Prera nibs clip onto the feed where the Lucina does not, and the Lucina fits onto a ridge that holds it firm. Also, the quality of the Lucina looks slightly better.

However, I recall Pilot ( or some Japanese maker) does an entirely different cartridge system in the EU, so it may well be that there is some interchangeability outside the US.

Yes, I know they are not. What I meant to say is that the Prera and the Metro, the 78G, etc. have swappable nibs - which is an advantage if you have some of these models. However, as I said, the larger Lucina nib is more enjoyable, at least to me. Sorry for any confusion I've caused.

Pilot Lucina: Eye-Dropper Alert!

1. The two-piece barrel may leak if not sealed well. NOTE: The black finial and the barrel on my Lucina appear to be glued together and well sealed. So the barrel may not leak when used as an eye-dropper. YMMV. Keep in-mind, my pen is only a sample of one. (Blow and suck on your barrel's end. If any air leaks through - it will leak. Try pumping water into the barrel with a bulb syringe - if any water leaks, it will leak with ink. My Lucina cap passes both tests.)

2. All but the black versions of the Lucina will likely stain if used as an eye-dropper. My yellow Lucina is prone to staining - and I'm not using it as an eye-dropper.

3. The Lucina is a small pen. So the smaller barrel may mean less burping (a good thing).

4. The barrel and sections threads are of a fine pitch and good quality, so they should seal well provided you use silicone grease - like with any eye-dropper.

Good Luck, David

(Picture above scraped from the Web long ago - can't remember where. But thanks anyway! Annotations are mine. David)

The molded plastic used in my yellow Lucina is of excellent quality. I find no detectable smell at all, even straight out-of-the-box for the first time. I would say the plastic is at-least as good as that used on an original (not fake) Lamy Safari or Vista.
