Onoto Magna Classic Jade And Wes 2014

I've just got back from WES 2014 in London and I'm considerably poorer. This is my first pen show and honestly it was overwhelming, in a good way. I had no clue where to look and what to buy, too many pens too little money.

I have been contemplating buying an Onoto for awhile, its just one of those things that I found hard to justify so I controlled myself, however I did know that they're going to be at WES and told myself that I need to control the impulse purchases.

The Onoto stand was one of the first on entering the pen show, They had most of their available items on display and I must say they are all exquisite. The only pen not on their website but on the stall that I could see was a new "Jade" Onoto Magna Classic, a limited edition of 50 pieces. I tried out the Jade and the new Excel and at that point I was basically sold on the "Jade", however I told myself there much more inside pace yourself :).

Inside the show it was a completely different ball game, overwhelming, extremely overwhelming, after circling around the show a few times, back I was at the Onoto stand and now I've made up my mind to splurge on the Jade Magna Classic. However Alastair the CEO of Onoto throws a spanner in the works for my wonderfully well laid out plans by showing me the last two pieces of the Havana Brown and the Tortoise shell, and left me with one of the hardest decisions I had to take in the last few weeks, "Which one do I buy? There all so beautiful", after much indecisive deliberation I finally settled on the Jade and here it is.

I apologise for the red background, its a bit too red and quite painful to the eyes, will post up better pics later today.

Congratulations! Nice purchase! I have admired Onoto pens from afar over the years. I saw Onotos at the DC Pen Show this year but those at the Onoto table were on display only. A couple of vendors had a limited selection of Onoto pens for sale, none of which interested me.

very nice pen

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I saw the jade & rather liked it, though in comparison to the blue, I feel it's a bit washed out. However... The red Excel was amazing - fortunately I didn't have enough cash.

Regards,

Richard.

That was my feeling as well - and also prevented from purchasing due to lack of funds!

  • 2 weeks later...

Nice looking fountain pen, I hope you enjoy it. Having to choose between the Havana Brown, the Tortoiseshell and the Jade must have been very difficult, they are all lovely pens. Now you have to decide what your next Onoto will be - you can't stop at just one :)
