Parker 51 Nib Issue

I've got a Parker 51 that I can't get the tines aligned, its always scratchy and any time I try to adjust it it just ends up right back where I started. I've had it worked on by a professional, and while it seemed to be ok at first, after a day or 2 it was back to scratchy. It seems that any time the hood is screwed back on it squeezes the nib and forces the tines out of alignment. Has anyone had issues like this, and is there anything that can be done to aleviate the problem? I've heard so much good stuff about Parker 51s, but I have had nothing but headaches from this pen.

Thanks

Sounds like either the feed is pushing the nib up too far or the tip of the hood is pressing down too much on the nib.

Easy fixes but before proceeding, can you post a close-up shot in side view of the relevant portion of the pen?

Get it aligned by a good tech, and then leave the hood on the pen, do not remove the hood.

If you are removing the hood on a regular basis that is a problem. The hoods are not meant to be removed.

Here are the pictures, hopefully they are clear enough, all I have at my disposal is my phone.

I can't tell from the photos whether the tip of the shell is pressing so hard on the nib as to open the tines. It does seem that the feed to nib geometry isn't way out of whack.

Ensuring that both the feed & the nib are seated all the way in, & after replacing the shell with the proper alignment, you could try immersing the shell's tip in very hot water for a bit. That will soften the lucite & the pressure from an overly compressed nib will naturally tend to cause the tip of the shell to be moved away, this can be augmented if necessary by applying slight force to the nib as though you were writing.

But do note that the nib should be touching the tip of the shell, just not excessively. Again this adjustment is made using hot water to soften the shell's lucite whereupon its tip can be bent down until it contacts the nib.
