I recently bought two from Goulet, F & EF, of the red. I love the old fashion style, light weight. I would not use the word "smooth" but I would for sure not say rough or scratchy. I would say very nice and I am glad I bought both. They write a nice fine, solid line, not wet but not dry. Just plain old Pilot quality as I am used to!

Grace and peace to you

:)

I am impressed with the Pilot Varsity. I have a Pilot Prera that is a love of a pen. Time to move up the Pilot ladder.

Oh boy, I just ordered a burgundy one. Thanks for all your comments and links to reviews. I expect greatness!

I've had my Elite (burgundy)for about 10 days. I love the way it looks and it writes beautifully (I have a medium). I'm not a fan of the squeeze converter but can live with it because I adore the pen.

I do have one problem with the pen and it's really annoying. The pen dries out and won't start after it's been left for only a few hours. The cap seems to fit snugly and goes on firmly. If I leave it overnight or for a few hours, in order to get it start I need to drip some water on it and/or hold the nib inside a paper towel.

I love this pen and am concerned I may stop using it because of this problem. Does anyone have any ideas of what the issue is or how I can fix it?
