Waterman 42 Safety Cross Pin Replacement

Hello,

I have been offered a Red Ripple Waterman's 42 Safety pen in what seems to fantastic condition.

There are two problems, the nib is a bit bent; but I have a replacement in my parts bin, so I have no qualms about that.

The other problem is not such an easy fix, as years ago, when the pen was out for display/sale in the antique store, some imbecile attempted to disassemble it...while standing up.

Thankfully, he removed the rear section without cracking anything, but the big problem was that the cross pin that holds the nib unit in the spiral fell out of the pen. Without this, the nib unit will not screw up or down.

Is it affordable and relatively cheap to obtain a new cross pin that will fit in, or should I pass on the pen because of the lack of cross pin?

I am sorry if that was a bit long winded and confusing.

You should be able to make another one using a small part of hard rubber from a spare-destryed pen (if you have one).

I also manage to make one from a toothpick...

I have used a piece of rod acquired from a model railway shop. Comes in a range of diameters, about 18" in length. (Take the pen with you and check the fit?)

Fantastic, thanks for the advice to both of the responders.

I am a model-railroader as well, so I can pop in to a local shop with the pen to check sizes...and maybe buy another car or two.
