Mattman, I'm happy to loan you a pen. Though, I must warn you, I ask new members to leave a deposit with me for the replacement cost of the pen. I do this because I don't want to lose my pens. Are you still interested?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Look what I get to play with today --a TWSBI 580 AL custom italic stub loaded with MB Corn Poppy Red!

Below is my first writing sample alongside Amber's note.... Not being in the habit of writing with italic stubs at all, when I do get one into my hands it always requires a little bit of an adjustment on my part. I can't understand why, but I always unconsciously tend to rotate pen and finger write for the first page or so instead of letting the nib do the work. Doesn't help that I am rushed to get out the door, either.

My need to be more disciplined with my grip aside, however, I am already amazed by how easily this stub glides across the Mohawk v|i|a paper like freshly-sharpened hockey skates on ice!

I also love the nib width, too. It's sufficiently broad and wet, yet it writes on cheap college-ruled paper without ghosting through, though that may actually be due to the fact that MB inks tend to run a little drier than most.

At any rate, it's no longer a matter of if, but rather when I am going to get one of this babies and ship it off to Art. Amberlea, you're such an en-abe-a-lawyer!

Mark - I'm so glad you are enjoying it! Good luck selling mom, most of us would be happy to get someone to take over payments. :)

Sounds like you also dig the ink.

If you are happy right now, leave it alone, buy a second nib and have that one done. Then you can compare and contrast.

I am actually considering doing exactly that. But will it be another B or a 1.1 is the question. Probably won't be until January though (unless Santa leaves some extra cash in my stocking)

I recently took delivery of a pen from Amberlea. A TWSBI 580 with a Tomahawk nib. I wish I took a picture, but hindsight is 20/20. It writes really nice. It a little too broad for my taste, but still was quite pleasant. Tomorrow is payday and with that comes a new pen.

So, today the Pendleton Angel was returned. (The Tomhawk has left the building for a quick tour of the LA area). It's loaded up with Pelikan Edelstein Tanzanite. It's ready to go visit someone.

I'll bite! I've never tried a Pendleton nib & would love to. I've read so much that I have really high expectations.

  • 2 weeks later...

OK, so here goes. I got this one in the mail a couple weeks back. So, remembering that I'm both a leftie AND primarily a user of older pens...

Niiiice.

I found and bought a SMOKE 540!!!! (With stock B nib). Because I couldn't get over how pretty the Smoke model was.

Still test-driving it, but so far, it's making a dry ink (DA 225 Years The U. S. Constitution) into a wet one.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

GW, that's awesome!

Sailor, Constitution didn't do it for me, but I looked for it as a perfect ink for Art to use when studying for the upcoming bar. Alas, ISellPens.com didn't have it in stock.

I've been using Amber's 540 with the Pendleton Angel nib for a little over a week now and like it well enough that I ordered a 580 Rose Gold with the Angel nib (added flex) last night.

I'll post a writing sample but this is one cool nib on a great pen. The nib (an M) is moderately flex-y so there's very pretty line variation and it writes wet but isn't a gusher. Pendleton's web site describes it as a stub/cursive italic hybrid.

Writing sample coming soon. Thanks for loaning it to me, Amber!
