Waterstone or Arkansas?

Water stone. :) It's just touchup day. I hardly have to pull out the diamonds for sharpening - just touchups and strops for the most part. :D

I'm going toss a wild guess and say it's 6000 grit or higher. Can't help myself. I carry two stones on me at all times. My knives suffer a lot of use. DC-4 is a life saver away from my bench stone and strop.

The "stone" I carry with me daily would be the DMT Diasharp card in extra fine (1200 grit), then I strop on my jeans. I don't recall what that particular whetstone is, but I don't believe it's more than 2000 grit... it was my first stone - a cheaper one from the Japanese market.

I do have stones that go all the way up to 20,000 though - the Chosera. I don't use them often (they're crazy pricey!). They just came in the pack when a friend handed down his sharpening set to me and I'm not really one to polish my edges either.

I'm usually pretty happy with just a working edge, so the DMT does it for me. Now and again if I'm doing a full-on sharpening session, I'll go all out and work through all of the stones that I have. It's really quite meditative, paying attention only to the movements of sharpening an edge. :)

I EDC a Fallkniven DC4 and a bit of what I think is jasper from Sweden for sharpening on the go.

I would love to own Chosera stones as I do keep my edges to a mirror shine. Well, as close as my stone and strop allow. But they are pricey. A friend of mine has a 30,000 grit stone he uses a lot. Professional kuksa and spoon carver.

And I agree. I keep two knives unsharpened in my drawer so I have something to do on a bad day. Sort of a Zen thing to maintaining a proper edge.

Before I got the DMT card, I was wanting the DC4. But then I was reading that the newer DC4's diamonds wore off a lot quicker, so I decided against it.

It's fun and relaxing getting that mirror edge. haha I just don't have the time for it as much as I would enjoy to, between 2 jobs, school, and working on a move to settle in with my new career. :)

I can't speak for the old DC4 make as mine is a recent production, but it does the job well. Been using it a year, maybe 25 times a week and the diamond side still works just fine.

Good to know! Maybe I'll pick one up after the move once I'm settled in. :) it'll be nice to have a ceramic stone, if not a strop.

I'm beginning to suspect that some of you guys have wandered over here from John's EDC site. Am I right? :)

Nope. USN. But FPN was my home first.

Boker Plus Urban Survival knife and Monteverde Invincia Stylus.

Nice shot!

Gee. That's an oddly shaped blade. What's the proposed function?

Thanks Moosie!

The knife was designed by self defense expert Jim Wagner as a small daily carry folding knife about the size of pen. Even has a clip. Not sure why the blade is designed that way, but to me it just looks cool.

This thread needs to be stopped. It's been responsible for me buying 3 new knives, so far.
