Do You Ever See Other People Using Fountain Pens At Work?

I've been using a FP in meetings recently (and no, no one ever comments) but I have only seen one other person using a FP (Parker 25 in his case)? Given there is no waste with a FP and often these meetings are with third sector organisations with environmental awareness built into them I'm a bit surprised. What are other people's experience?

Once in a while.

A co-worker had a Pelikan M215 (he no longer works with us). A saw a local CEO out and about one day writing with a Peilot MR, commented that they just got it, and it was a bit "wide" for their taste, so I made a note to buy them a PIlot 78g (similar price, finer nib). I gave it to them this week and they were very appreciative.

So, not too often.

Once. It was a Waterman Charleston. I work in IT so the top two by far are 1. taking notes on a mobile device or 2. some flavor of Pilot gel pen. Inexpensive ballpoints provided by our employer are a distant third.

As I mostly work solitary: seldom, but I know there are a few colleagues who use a fountainpen, though I don't know if they do regularly.

Out on the street: hardly

I know kids in our schools still use a fountain pen during part of their schooling.

One person used a MB 144 and another a Sheaffer Targa, both with exclusively turquoise ink. My boss had a black Cross ATX and the president used a black Waterman Le Man 200. A former boss had a Waterman Executive set. I used mostly a maroon marble Duofold International and sometimes when people at work saw it, it would enthuse them to bring in and resume using their own fountain pens.

Nope. Nor am I expecting to see any.

Having said that, I was in our supply cabinet the other day looking for something when I noticed a box of Pilot Varsities. Of course, I grabbed one. ;) I think that was the first one taken from the box.

I work at a chiropractic college and the only other fountain pen I've ever seen is our office manager's, but she uses cheap disposable ones. She started using them after I did, which is cool, and she likes purple ink because she forces everyone else to use black! LOL

Several years ago we got a CEO that had a Meisterstuck 144 and kept a bottle of black ink in his desk. He got quite amused when he knew that I was into fountain pens as well.

First he liked the idea, then started to make fun that I had so many pens, then he got annoyed that some were LEs and advised they're too flashy for the work place/customers, then he became such a bugger determined to make my life hell until I resigned.

What a creepy thing to do. Sorry that happened to you.

It's a rarity. More often I get comments about my use of a FP at work. Once a co-worker borrowed and abused my Parker 51, to my dismay (although it leaked on his shirt & tie).

Have I reminded you that killing them or even beating them is probably illegal in your state?

Never seen anyone use a fountain pen at work. Most people where I work use mechanical drafting pencils (for everything, including note taking) or cheap bic type pens.

And no one ever seems to comment that I use them...

I have a few colleagues that have fountain pens but it is more the exception than the rule. Always excited to see one though.

Nope, and probably never will, work in IT as a software developer, I rarely see a ballpoint pen... My boss kind of "did a great job" to disuse the last one, whom used a ballpoint and notebook to take notes.... So, I'm the soul one, whom using fountain pens.

I had all these fountain pens. Why not use them when writing at work ? So, I did.

A couple of coworkers saw that there were no prohibitions, and started using fp's, as well.

About half of he office does. I maintain a bottle of "ink of the month". All are welcome.

One co-worker about 14 years ago. His pen was a largish MB, which is why I still remember it.

I can't recall anyone else, although there must have been a few.

Here at the office, pens are a rarity, much less fountain pens. We do everything on-line.

I have fountain pens in my pockets, and my co-workers think I'm nuts. The idea that I would go to a pen show or spend more than $5 on a pen confounded them. Most of them got it was a hobby thing, and they had their own thing like it.

Not at work, but definitely at school. :)

At work, there's too many carbon copies that we go through, that even something like the Sailor Trident or Hero 360 can be a hassle.

I teach high school and use a fountain pen regularly at school. The kids are always very excited about my pens (I try not to bring anything too flashy / tempting). Last year I had two students who had fountain pens of their own, both Lamy Al-Stars (one was from S. Africa and had always used an FP throughout her schooling there). I have a few colleagues who are FP users, but most just use ballpoints.

Yeah, I have a colleague or two who use 'em. I've also had one or two students who used FPs - I think at least one was a German.

FWIW, I'm a college prof. We spend a lot of time writing stuff, we have too much money, and we prize eccentricity. Hence the colleagues and I using FPs.
