Ahab Success & Reevluation Of The "flex Nib"

I've coined the term "barely-flex" for nibs like these, where you don't normally see any flex, but you can get some if you press down with a Gorilla Hand. From where I sit, it's a stunt or a novelty, not something useful. The supposedly "semi-flex" nib that came with my Wahl-Eversharp Skyline Technic fits into a similar category, as does the FPR flex nib.

 

The most flexible nib I've seen on a recent production factory pen was a Lamy 2000, if you can believe it.

but I think we have seen better I have yet to get my hands on a C912 FA nib and pen... more on the nib than the pen... then look for a way to actually find the reasons why Pilot made such a nib

A good Super flex is always now I want it to flex, in it should write normal with a light hand....like the 52 I have or the Degussa super flexs I have.

I watched that video about heat setting Brian made (mostly, I admit it, because I think Brian is adorable, which is kind of dumb but even older women can enjoy a pretty face..) I didn't try heat-setting though, because even though I'm the first person to run for a soldering iron or a dremel tool, I was nervous about modifying a pen.

 

I will have to give it a go. I can always use the Monteverde for changing nibs.

Fountain Pen Revolution sells #6 two-tone flex nibs (which are much more attractive than Noodlers stock nibs IMHO) for $11. I am in no way affiliated with FPR, but I did want to throw that out for people like myself with a bent nib due to the thread placement on the Konrad.

yeah, many of the early waterman pens will have a slight downward bend too, but before i found the sailor nib i could not find any that have a sharp bend like a fude nib. i was basing it off the downward bend of the old waterman pens initially but i found with a sharper bend the pen will flex much easier and will produce dynamic writing upside down.

 

the mod is not without its problems. its really tough to create the bend and maintain the alignment of the tines. the metal will probably also be more likely to fatigue and snap at the bend at some point but i have been writing and pushing this nib pretty hard over the past couple months and it has not snapped yet.

Oh, Algester, you don't know the half of it! About a year ago, my Lamy 2000 hit the floor nib-first. Straightened the nib, did a bit of smoothing, wrote a bit, and thought the pen was doing fine. Later, realized that the nibs are spread too far and the ink flow alternates between gushing and hard-to-start. Sigh! I guess will have to send it off for repair. But, will need a good nib-meister as the nib is a Broad that I have modded to an Italic Fine. Well, I know Tim Gridler ...

To each his/her own—I went over to FPR, and I find the Goulet nibs more attractive. Chocolate and vanilla again.

By the way, I am taking about the two-tone Goulets, not the plain steel!
