Susemai Van Gogh Colour Plate Experimenent

Dear FPN Friends

The Great Amberlea our Queen of Inks was so kind to invite me to join the Susmai ink tests. Thank you Amberlea.

Those Susemai inks are quite something :D ... Some Inks I really love.

Before testing them extensively I thought let's do an experiment. I am a lousy Artist but funnily there are colouring plates for adult nowadays. I Picked a picture from Van Gogh and started coulouring it using Van Gogh's pointilism technique....

fpn_1409902405__susmai_van_gogh_front.jp

Those Inks are excellent. The colours are not like the ones n the original Van Gogh of Course.

  • The Black Cat.... Truly BLACK and highly saturated:dilluted massively one can make the mst beautiful shades of grey with it (see the Kerbs). High Saturation means a lot of pigment articeles. So My advise clean yur pen regularly.
  • The Green Diamond Bright vivid Green (used in the Trees) This colour makes a gloomyday Happy
  • Green C.... This Green I prefer for writing very nice dark antique green
  • Black Diamond... I went to the Eye Doctor I Am afrad I went Colour Blind :D Believe there was a false label on the test tube. Very intense colour, but to pink for my personal taste
  • Red Cashmere... Case of wrong Label again.... But a lovely Bleu grey.... Want to have that :D
  • Blue Diamond.... What a lovely vivid Blue reminds me a bitof the famous Santorini roofs. Very intense blue when not dilluted
  • TS Red... Shear beauty.... Not too bright but a very nice warm red... Must have that!!! :D

fpn_1409902469__susemai_van_gogh_back.jp

This is the back side.... Showthrough is quite strong (even dilluted):

Pens used. Lamy Joy Italic 1,5 Nib. Swab for the kerbs. on normal copying paper...

Well concerning the pens and the paper used that is no wonder I guess.... The Lamy is wet as the ocean on a rainy day... and wiht the amount of inks used one vould flood the Sahara :D

Very impressing stuff that Susemai.... Love it

Thanks again Amberlea.... I will test them more extensively soon.... Please tell methe Brand and the ink names.... I will rob a bank if needed ;) to obtain some

I enjoyed the colouring... Female say Men never grew up.... they are right :D :D :D ... It was fun to do and I got the hang of it... Must try a mandala with inks too

Regards

Peter

The pink is Red Diamond

Not sure what you got with the Red Cashmere label, but the real Red Cashmere is a wonderful color.

Hi Cyber &

althought Amberlea explained me once I can still not tell what the difference is between Sheen and Shading... Can you help a Dumbass Dutchman

Hi Cyber &

althought Amberlea explained me once I can still not tell what the difference is between Sheen and Shading... Can you help a Dumbass Dutchman

Sheen is some kind of chemical/physical property specific to an ink that makes is "shine"... It usually seen in several Japanese inks and is noticed that the ink must "pool" over the surface (good non absorbent paper) so the sheen can be seen... For whatever reason (chemical property for sure).. the sheen seen on reds is green, the sheen on blues is purple, and I have seen silver sheen on black inks.

Shading, is another property of an ink.. that will show much lighter where there is less ink and darker where there is more concentration of ink. Some inks are so heavily saturated that you don't see color differences in the driest and wettest part. You can add a little water to an ink (reduce the saturation) to get it to shade a little.

Examples below.

Sheen...

What is that ink in your sample? that is cool too.

A sorry for asking you another annoying question....

I believe that pic of sheen is Rouge Hematite. That is a special kind of sheen, cause gold flakes was added to that ink to make it sheen.

Showthrough= when you can "see" your writing on the back side of the paper... If you can easily read your writing, is called "showthrough"... if you can only discern the writing.. is called "ghosting"

Bleedthrough= this is when the ink soaks the paper so much that it "bleeds" on the back of it.

Neither of them is optimal for writing on both sides of a paper. Bleedthrough is definitely the worst.

OH MY this was incredible! Thank you!

Will you please mail me the original? I will mail it to Susemai.

If I didn't send you Red Cashmere, I need to do so. It is something special.

Depending on the saturation it has a brown almost copper sheen.

Red Diamond is actually a bright red at higher concentrations, but is pink in most usable concentrations:
