Virtually New 149 Medium Nib Skipping Badly.

Recommended Posts

I've recently got a virtually new 149 medium nib off ebay, but the nib frequently skips. I can write with it fine, but as I say it skips and I get a lot of feedback, and if I wanted that I could have made do with a Jinhao 159. I wouldn't mind swapping the nob for a broad, but does anyone have any tips about how to make it write smoother as it is?

Thanks

First, I have no idea what "virtually new" might mean. Did it once belong to someone who used a heavy hand when he tried the pen, bent the nib and so put it aside until it sold?

It looks like you are in the UK so I'd suggest that you contact eckiethump and get it fixed like you want.

Before sending it off for repair, you might try (if you haven't already done so), thoroughly cleaning the pen, carefully inspecting the nib for damage, trying the nib on different paper and with different ink. Also, does it skip when dipped in ink or only when ink feeds through the mechanism? You mentioned "smoother" and "skipping". If the nib is scratchy in feel when writing and it also skips, consider the possibility of nib damage. If it skips but writes fine otherwise, maybe the pen is clogged or one of the other variables just mentioned might be considered. Of course, a pen repair person can figure all of this out for you, too! Good luck!!

Thanks guys, it does skip a little even when just dipped, but it does work on a more absorbant paper. I'll check out the contacts you've suggested. Thanks again!

I feel your pain. I got new a new medium and broad 149s and had to send them off for work for skipping. The broad is going back to FPH and the medium is going to Masuyama, just because. Add to that my fine 149 that came back from repair for a leaky collar with a misaligned nib and I'm frustrated. It doesn't leak, but in trying to fix the nib I made it worse, so it's going to Mottishaw.

I have my EF at least.

It's enough to make you give up on pens.

Yea, I feel your pain as well. I bought a very nice MB 145 from a seller on ebay. Cosmetically, it looks brand new but it skips on the up stroke quite frequently. Very annoying. I will probably send it back to MB at some point but for the time being, I will just have to deal with it.

I just bought Lamy 2000 it's a lovely pen for a daily use and i find it quite reasonable for a pen so good to be just so rightly priced !!
