Any Faber-Castell Fans?

I have a FC Basic in Carbon Black with a Fine nib. I am using it daily at the moment. Very smooth nib and rather wet. From what I can see, FC Basic, with Fine nib, writes slightly wider lines compared to my Parker Vector with Medium nib. But I am loving it.

Does anyone here know if FC Basic and Loom nib are interchangeable? Please advise.

Another FC fan !!!

Great quality for the money, although a little bit on the heavy side. I like heavy pens, but it is a problem if accidentally falls.

On the other side, these are perfect writers. Smooth and flow consistent for every day use !!!

Great Pens !!!

Pelikan : M805 Souveran Black-Blue-Silver (F), Ductus 3110 (F), Classic Taupe M205 (F) Waterman : Carene Royal Violet (M) Faber Castell : E-Motion Croco Brown (F), Loom Orange (M), Ambition Rhombus Black (M) Pilot : MR Silver (M), MR Animal Mat Black Croco (M) Lamy : Safari Umbra Mat (M), Safari Black (M), Vista (EF) Pentel : Tradio Nature (M)

The Ondoro is a lovely pen but the Lamy 2000 is... put it this way, if I had to choose, I would not even think about it. And it wouldn't be the Ondoro.

That said, my two Ondoros (smoked oak + resin) are both great. Reliable, wet, non-skipping, feel good, look good, what's not to like.

Too many pens, too little time!

Yes, they are interchangeable. Basic, Loom, Ambition, E-Motion and Ondoro all use the same nib units.

My Oak Ondoro is the only pen I bought at retail price and I thought it was well worth it. Was my first faber pen too. In the office it is my go to pen, and a much better writer than a lot of pens above its price range.

Awesome weight and finish on the pen. Love that it is a bit heavier, yet shorter overall so it balances out quite well.

Bought an initio for my wife yesterday, will get some pics up a bit later.

Here is an Ebony Anello next to an MB 146 to get you thinking.

I'm waiting for a piston filler Anello, sterling silver section n barrel, body - FC seems to be very creative and experimental so any light weight body material would do (except powdered aluminum). It must not be pen of the year price tag. As soon as one of those pops up if possible, I'll grab one immediately.

Speaking of Pens of the Year,

the 2015 one was released! Don't know if this is old news or not... post-110643-0-27901600-1423771412_thumb.jpg

Once again, it's available in platinum or 24k gold plating. I'm not sure I like this one. I adore all the previous ones, but the 2015 is kinda boring. Too similar to last year's. Both made from rare stones from famous old buildings, both platinum/gold, both have the same nibs... Then again no point in complaining because I'll never own one.

Does anyone have a favourite PoTY? I can't remember the years, but I like the amber, snakewood, petrified wood, stingray leather, Indian satinwood and walnut root

What Jar said. I have 2 GvFC Intuitions, a black with a fine and terrcota in extra-fine. Love them both, also the Loom I own.

Did you get the wood version?

I have the resin models in both Black and Terracota, they are perfectly sized for my hand. I love how they feel and balance, not to mention the nibs are incredible. They have become my favorite writers.

Difficult, as the Faber Castells are all in a lower price class.

But perhaps I would exchange my 2000 for a Graf von Faber Castell Tamitio? Should try the Tamitio before, though.

Point is I'm not fond of metal sections so many FCs and CdAs are out of the question.

Only FC made pen I have is the Porsche Design Tecflex. Which is a nice enough pen.

When you buy most GvFC pens that have a true section you can specify whether you want a plastic, plated or Sterling silver section. The Caran d'Ache metallic sections are also concave in many models and so not as prone to slipping as are straight or tapered sections. The Caran d'Ache Genève (predecessor to the Leman) has a concave plastic section.

I actually have a CdA RNX316 PVD. Fussed a long time over that one but it turned out to be a fantastic writer, one of my very best.

Haven't treid their pens, but their pencils are simply incredible, markers are great too.

They make solid products.

Their pencils are way too light for me. Even the 8B isn't very dark.

I can see that, but I guess it's about what your work demands.

I'm all about soft and semi-transparent lines and shades when I use the pencil - so they work pretty well in a sense that I never felt the need to have richer and darker tones.

For art one definitely needs the range of dark to light. However, I use a Faber-Castell 3H for drafting.

Took delivery of my Ondoro today and I'm very impressed I would consider it as one of the nicest mid range pens I've seen.

Lots of pens have come and gone since I joined this thread. The odoro is still here. I dig mine. My only qualm is that I wish I had gotten a B nib as well. I got an F and it is great for every day writing in a notebook but I probably would have enjoyed the B. Yours looks nice. Congrats. I have a wood one. Solid pens. I am not kind to mine and it still looks like the day it came out of the box.

I recently purchased the GvFC Loom from Goulet Pens. I wanted a "carry" pen that wasn't expensive but was a decent writer. I bought a fine point nib, which seems a bit finer than I had expected, but certainly acceptable. It is a stiff steel nib, and seems to need a wetter ink to glide across the page without drag. When compared to my Lamy Al-Star, the nib is much stiffer and less smooth. While I love my Lamy, I also really like the way this pen writes as well.
