The Heritage 1914 On Display - It's A Huge Pen !

Ah... the LV pen pouch. I also have this, in the same finish. Unfortunately I don't use it very much because it only secures the pens with one band in the middle of the pen. I find many of my pens with knock against each other because of that. I recently found an Aston pen case that can even accommodate my Namiki Emperor. That's the pen case I use now.

Can you provide the details of the Aston case you are using? I have both a 1914 and a Namiki Emperor on order, and have been wondering what sort of case would fit them.

I use the 10 pen Aston zip case. The dimensions of the case is quite large, and is the only case I know that can accommodate my oversized pens like the Namiki Emperor, the 1914 and the Danitrio Genkai.

Sorry to revive an old thread but right on topic.

I am like Axis currently using the free MB pouch that comes with serviced pens.

Anybody found a nice option as a pen case for this pen? Do you know if it goes into the Florence pen case/tube? Anything Montblanc?

It fits in my Franklin Christoph but a bit tight am afraid it scratches over tkme, but generally its a really quality case.

You mean the cloth black/white MB pouch? I've one of those but the white gets dirty very easily. Anyway, the 1914 is indeed a large pen but not sure if it'll fit into a Florence. Owners here may have suggestions or you might wish to bring your 1914 to the MB boutique for a try out.

Nothing at the boutique now fits I've checked. That's why I'm considering older/discontinued models or different brands.

It's kind of ironic if MB makes a larger pen but no suitable case for it. Then in that case might have to look for alternative makes. Thinking about it, spending a huge lot for the 1914 but MB does not include a specific case for it.

I guess because the pen is exceptionally huge, from a production line / P&L perspective it wouldn't make sense to them to make one especially for these 1,333 pieces?

Well they could bundle it as a set from each purchase, that would make more sense for MB.

I don't think it'll fit in a 1 pen florence case, the 149 has maybe a couple of mm of space around available in the opening of the case and if not clipped perhaps 1cm length wise, from what i found the 1914 is 4mm bigger in diameter and a bit more than 1cm longer.

Maybe with the 2/3 florence case

Yes, I was just getting ready to mention some of the older hard, Florentine-style cases that were made for two pens may be a good option, assuming there is no divider down the middle (which I don't believe there is). My assumption is that the decision behind not making an accompanying case was probably influenced by the idea that most of the 1914 pens purchased would not be carried around or even used by their owners. But the same issue has remained for the 149, minus a few exceptions like the older/original Diaries & Notes two-pen pouch. But even those (I believe) were still manufactured to fit "Classique or LeGrand size" pens and the later production models of the pouch were altered to no longer fit a 149 as comfortably. It only happens to be that the slots were large enough for a 149. And we can see that those cases/pouches didn't stay in production.

Pravda, I haven't held or even seen the 1914 but I am sure there is a case out there to encase it. Those older Montblanc hard cases are certainly expensive when found (relative to alternative options) but not relative to the value of the pen it would be carrying.

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

The pen is massive. One week with it and I am still learning how to poise it proper to make letters on the page. But still fun as hell.

It just happens that it does fit my primary cases, the Franklin Christoph as I earlier mentioned, but just barely with some friction. Considering that I am still excited about it, I would rather have something more 'comfortable' for the pen.

None of the cases in the MB boutique fit it. I actually took it two days ago and tried every one they've got. The 2 pen Florence case might do the job but it would still wobble around inside which is not a good idea.

Surely, there might be out there something on Etsy or Chinese that would accommodate it, but I was hoping to find something a bit more quality oriented.

I went through the same journey of trying to find the right case to fit the 1914. Yes, nothing in the current Mont blanc catalog would fit it. I did finally find the Aston case a good compromise. Not the most elegant but it fits really big pens like the 1914, the Danitrio Genkai and the Namiki Emperor. Another option is to try cigar stores. They will have large cases that fit very large cigars. I have found a unique 1 pen case for the Danitrio Genkai through this avenue.

As for using the pen, I have found not extending the nib all the way the best way for me to use the pen comfortably. At the end of the day, I have to say it's the only pen I have in my collection that really more of a novelty, because it's quite hard on the hand.

Good advice about the cigar tubes, thanks! About not extending the nib fully, I must caution it may hurt the pen. The mechanism has a wobble/give when not fully locked and with repeated strokes may loosen it even further in not a good way :/

That said, it gets easier each day you use it. I personally take extreme good care of mine, but didn't buy it to sit in a drawer :)

Why does the 1914 cost over 15 grand? Is the gold trim, solid gold?

The black $6 and the coral $15.

Because why not. Montblanc wants it to be exclusive so it is priced accordingly. Just my person opinion, but it seems to be thr only reason.

solid gold trim would not cost that much.

I spend way to much on my pens to every judge anyone; I have had numerous people judge me for the amount I spend to buy not just the Writer Series pens but also the Great Character Series. I feel everyone's personal choices are just that.

If I had the ability, liked it enough and knew I would ink it and write with it - I would probably buy it - the drawback for me personally for some of the real high priced pens are they are not really made to be everyday writers and inked - that is a No Go for me.
