The Heritage 1914 On Display - It's A Huge Pen !

I have been writing with it for some days now - due to its weight I had to get used to it but after some lines it works well. No sharp edges and a perfect balance allow it to be an easy to use pen. Only thing that moves me is whether to get an OB-nib; the standard medium ink flow looks too tiny compared to the size of the pen.

I would go with a bigger tip. My favourite pen has an italic BB or so. This would suite this pen too. But if our the O-type, then it should be an OBB. Unless you are normally writing much smaller than your sample.

So I picked up my coral Heritage 1914 - it is fantastic in terms of weight, balance, size and design. I love the color - compared to the demonstrator pen (see Sampanels pics above) the coral is not that bright anymore, giving it even more seriousness which I personally prefer. Please excuse the quality, I am not an expert in photography….

Dear Axis, why are you not buying the Heritage 1914 1000 Edition too?!

Are the Heritage 1914 333's fittings made in 18K Solid Gold or just gold plated?!

Danke, Marcus Valério

Axis,

That is a beautiful pen. It is an elegant looking piece and I hope you get years of enjoyment from it.

Hello Marcus,

the fittings are solid gold. I won't buy the 1000 edition as it did not strike me at all (compared to the 333) - i.e. I would not use it. I am changing the nib to BB by the way ;)

From the size it seems more like a #12. The photo shows a #10 in coral and a #12 black.

Beautiful, and the ink I presume is Montblanc Racing Green? ☺

The ink is called Montblanc Irish Green. Fits beautifully with the coral and gold pen.

I went to a boutique tonight on the way home from the coast. They had a black Heritage 1914 in stock and I spent abut 15 minutes playing with it. A few impressions...

1. This pen is HUGE. I did not understand that from the comparison shots in this thread. It is really not a whole lot bigger looking than a 149 when they are both capped (though it has a much larger diameter), but when they are uncapped and the nib is extended - wow they are different.

2. The M nib is about #9 size and the one I was using had great springiness to it. I know everyone says that about the similar Heritage 1912. They had one of those in the store too and I compared the springiness and they were not even close. I could see the M nib on the pen putting down a line similar to maybe a BB or BBB from a 149. That was almost enough to make me get the pen. Luckily my wife and daughter were there to remind me that it a crazy sum of money for a pen.

3. The pen is HEAVY. I felt like I was writing with a Maglite flashlight. The pen is solid and felt like I could beat my way past the security guard with it.

4. The MOP star is amazing, so large and so deep. If you are a sucker for these like myself, you will not be disappointed.

5. The mechanism to raise and lower the nib is smooooth. I could play with it until it breaks... in about 10 years. It felt quite well engineered.

6. The clip was better looking than I though it would be from the photos.

I took some comparison photos so you can see the difference with a 149 with the cap off. The pictures we previously had showed them both capped. (Apologies for the not so great photos. The lighting in a boutique is very bright to make everything look shiny, but it washes out pictures.)

I'm curious as to why the Orange pen is 17 grand. Are all the metal pieces on this pen, solid gold? I'm one of the few that absolutely love expensive pens. I'm just confused at how they arrived at that price.

My guess is the limitation of 333 and some research that said the market would support that price. There is not enough metal on the pen to explain that cost. I think it is more a function of how much it is a statement pen for collectors, businessmen, etc. It really is quite an instrument.

By the way these pens are not plastic but the cap is titanium and the base aluminium. Covered with lacquer.

Mont Blanc is out of control for after purchase service. 500 to 800 to repair a broken helix. Costs about 150. Sells their leather bags with strap separate. Never seen that before.

Holy girth and size batman! I'm quite sure I wouldn't be able to use one of these comfortably, The 149 is stretching it for my small hand.

The nib does look great still

Hi, here are 1914 photos with 149 and 1912. Hopefully they can give everybody some idea on the size of the pens :)

Great pen, Axis! Congratulations! I know you will have many years of pleasure using this wonderful pen. Like many, I find the coral one truly breathtaking and it would be my choice too. Thanks for the pics and letting us live vicariously through you, if only for a moment.
