The Heritage 1914 On Display - It's A Huge Pen !

I ordered the coral/orange 1914 today - will post pics after delivery :D

Congratulations! Look forward to seeing the pictures of your new addition to the family!

Sorry to dash the tsunami of enthusiasm for the 1914 pens, but I personally much prefer the #10 and #12 as shown in these photos. Even given the price difference, I'd take take either vintage model over the new one without a moment's hesitation.

Fair enough. That said, I wonder whether the #10/12 were the "Heritage 1914" of their time? (i.e., people saying "Wow, those are BIG pens!")

Very interesting question!

Very few or nothing is documented to my knowledge about the aimed market or user of those true oversize pens.

I can imagine that only very few stores had 10 or 12 pens in stock with a variety of nibs ;-)

Cheers

Michael

At least that ("huge appearance") is one of the main heritage aspects that the 1914 is supposed to have according to Montblanc. Thus I would imagine that the #10/12 were the same a hundred years ago. I will ask them next time.

The 1914 nib looks really cheap in comparison to the 149

On a quest to find the best black ink there is {on hold until i come up with good criteria}. Test subjects:

Caran d'Ache Carbon; J. Herbin Perle Noire; De Atramentis Black Edition - Black; Lamy Black; Montegrappa Black; Parker Quink Permanent Black; Pelikan Brilliant Black 4001; Sailor Kiwa-Guro Pigmented Nano Black. Not final list, PM me with further worthy test subjects

Attached a pic of the new brochure - this resembles better the coral color. It is not as shiny and bright as in the pics of the demonstrator in this thread.

Dear Axis,

I know you've decided to buy one.

I am thinking to do the same.

We know, it is a very expensive pen, but in your opinion will it hold the value in the collector's hands?!

Danke, Marcus

Well, I guess that this pen will always be remembered due to it's nearly unique design - especially the coral one. And at least the people at Montblanc Artisan say that there will be no larger pen within the Heritage series again. So I believe that there will always be demand for it, although the edition with 333 is outnumbering usual LEs. Already now there is a strong demand for it across the globe - so we can conclude that it moves people in any culture - this does not apply to all other LEs at all...

Will it keep it's value? I don't know but as I will probably use it this doesn't worry me much. In any case I would not go with the black one as I don't like it; but that one will be a safe investment as well I suspect.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I picked up my coral Heritage 1914 - it is fantastic in terms of weight, balance, size and design. I love the color - compared to the demonstrator pen (see Sampanels pics above) the coral is not that bright anymore, giving it even more seriousness which I personally prefer. Please excuse the quality, I am not an expert in photography….

A lot of Montblanc DNA, Axis!

It has a great potential to became a grail in the future.

Unfortunately i will buy the Black 1000 Edition, because the Orange 333 Edition is OVERPRICED.

In my mind, the price of the Heritage 1912 333 Edition in titanium could be the same for this one.

Congratulations for this amazing pen.

Thanks :)

I would not call it "unfortunately" though. In case your dealer has both available make a comparison and decide again (that happened to me).

With regard to pricing compared to the 1912 in titanium I thought same as you until I saw it in real. It is reasonable that the price is higher than with the Heritage 1912 (333) - this does not imply that I believe the price to be reasonable overall  But somehow this coral pen is a must-have….
