I noted that the construction of the barrel is aluminum with lacquer. Out of curiosity would that make the pen heavier or lighter than if it were constructed of resin?

I'm personally going to guess it would be a bit heavier depending on the thickness of Aluminum used. Although it's light weight, a substantial coating of lacquer would have a nice heft to it and the normal resin is surprisingly light.

As a newbie I am not sure that I can appreciate the shape of the nib, it just appears wrong to my eye. Would there be an advantage to the square versus rounded profile?

17k for a pen that's almost 90% made out of plastic? Although I agree both pens look stunning, I believe they have lost all touch with reality at Montblanc.

The coral one is not made of resin ( as you call plastic). It is made of titanium.

I saw it for the first time about 1.5 years ago in Germany and then again this February.

Whilst the 1912 is the smallest pen of the Heritage series this will be the largest for sure

I was lucky to hold one of the first real orange Heritage 1914 in my hands this week.

It is so heavy but also perfectly balanced - I guess I will go for one... This is a Montblanc edition that has never been seen before.

These are wonderful comparison images! I haven't seen photos of the 1914 like this, anywhere else. The colors and design are simple and elegant at the same time; I don't believe it is too big, even for someone with small hands, but then again I most likely will not have an opportunity to try it.

Might take some time - the production will run till March 2015 and one never knows when the specific number is to be produced.

Well honestly speaking aren't all Montblanc pens ridiculously over priced and this is one thing that really annoys me about this company. I've seriously seen Starwalker's here for almost $1000 probably a bit more. 149s are over a $1000. There are other fountain pens out there that write just as good if not better. I have a 146 fountain pen and also the matching rollerball the Le Grand series and these are the two phones that I use the least, my almost every day fountain pen is either my Pelikan M600 or Pelikan 400nn and both of these pens write flawlessly.

From the size it seems more like a #12. The photo shows a #10 in coral and a #12 black.

Sorry to dash the tsunami of enthusiasm for the 1914 pens, but I personally much prefer the #10 and #12 as shown in these photos. Even given the price difference, I'd take take either vintage model over the new one without a moment's hesitation.
