Okay sure the title is slightly misleading, but I remember in the past raffles you must buy the ticket with your current purchase, so it's sort of correct.

A lot of you probably saw the post "SomeAsianJoe" made about a gold/Bordeaux Douo he had found that was in pretty terrible shape-- lots of oxidation and discoloring on the gold cap, and a heck of a lot of scratches and "matte-ing" on the Bordeaux body.

 

He grabbed a 3-step kit and used it on the pen. As you know, in short, "Step #0" removes scratches, while "Steps 1 & 2" increase shine and depth, and also remove oxidation and add a layer of protection.

 

He used all three steps on the Bordeaux portions and Steps 1 & 2 on the gold portions.

 

He shot me a super excited PM-- I asked for some pictures and I've attached them. The first three are "before"... Last one is "after." They speak for themselves!

 

You can especially see the difference on the gold portions! The darker area towards the rings on the cap is just a reflection-- the actual cap looks like a fresh bar of gold!

From your response I will presume that your law interests lie more with the protection of Companies than it does with the protection of the Consumer.

 

I guess it could be argued that Both serve a useful purpose for each of their respective Principals.

Rather, my post simply described why the thread title is technically correct; the MB itself is free to the winner from amongst the contest participants. Also if you remember during the time when the internet wasn't famous and for raffles you had to mail a 5 dollar bill with your form. And those where just labeled as "Win a XXX" And the one you just mail the form was labeled as "Win a FREE XXX."

Okay, WOW.

 

Montblanc 146 aside (which is yet another one on the "Want But Would Cost A Lot" list), you're seriously stepping your game up here, haha. I've only one resin pen at the moment, so perhaps I'll wait to get it back before ordering a bottle (you still have stock, ne?). Haha, then again, if I order a bunch for a lot of entries... what'll I do with it all?!

Woohoo!!

 

Got my kit in the mail yesterday and it was just like Christmas in that I had to open it and try it on...something!!! First thing i happened to grab because they were close and because it was no big loss if I screwed it up was my cheap plastic sun glasses, lol. Hey, I was apprehensive just like many are. THIS IS AWESOME STUFF!!!!!

 

I can't believe how easy this is to use and the results (so far) were wonderful. My plastic sunglasses probably had more scratches than most pens and the fact that I still have to be able to see through them was another test for this stuff in my mind. If it didn't work or would damage something it would be those cheapos and it would be obvious because of the optical element. Nada! Brilliant results!

 

Hot da** the lenses look good and it took all but the gouge out scratch wise! Now I'll keep them!

 

I will say this. If you own a pen that you want looking beautiful, this stuff will definitely do it! I was a bit sceptical, but I am very please, so don't be afraid to give it a try.

 

Going to start doing some pens tonight or tomorrow after I get my late pen pal letters done. Will try to post a photo or two.

Ice, which step are you using? I know it isn't a use I talk about, but I use steps 1+2 on my tablet, laptops, watch faces, etc because they not only remove oils etc but also protect against more... Lol!

I just decided to order a kit to give a try. I like to go to antique fairs and buy some of the cheap vintage pens I find there and fix them up, and had been looking for a nice polish. Looking forward to seeing how well it works for myself. Some of the pictures sure are promising!

Perhaps this question is rather presumptuous of me, but what EXACTLY does this do that a Cape Cod cloth WON'T? I've been using Cape Cod to polish the acrylic crystals on my watches for years.

Sorry for the long wait for a reply. As a lot of you know, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer a while back so that has been eating up a lot of my time and sanity.

Anyway, there are a crazy amount of differences between the three-step polish system and a cape cod cloth or a run-of-the-mill scratch remover like simichrome, etc.

First off, this is a three step system... It isn't one item that tries to do everything, it is three specific items that have been formulated to be the best at what they do.

 

The Step #0 (scratch remover) is a diminishing abrasive which means you never need to worry about over-polishing or damaging the finish. It also works itself down to a smooth finish (aka, it works down to a finer and finer grit each swipe you make.)

 

The Steps #1 and #2 work together as non-abrasive cleaners and shine enhancers. At the same time, they add a layer of protection to stop more damage from working its way to your pen.

 

All in all, you're talking apples and oranges... or a "crazy guy with a shotgun" (cape cod, simichrome, etc.) and a three man tactical team (the three step polish system).

 

The pictures you're seeing above speak volumes-- for example, using cape cod on the gold portion of the pen would have just removed all the gold plating and led to either brassing or "silvering", depending on what version it was.
