Syringe Filling

Darn, the inkjet refill kit I wanted to buy is out of stock! That means I need another means to obtain the needle. What other stores sell ink refill kits? I looked at Staples & Circuit City to no avail.

Do you think Home Depot would have that wood glue syringe?

There's no where I'm walking into a pharmacy to ask to buy a needle. I don't think I could face them. Besides, I don't know what family members will think when they see a real needle in my possession.

Eek! But if I do go to the pharmacy, can I buy just 1 at a time & am I supposed to ask for Insulin syringe? Is there protective cover for the needle? Can I buy it just at the pharmacy counter?

I recently purchased the Write Fill kit from peartreepens.com. It was around $10 shipped. Work perfectly. I don't know what a syringe will cost at a pharmacy, but for ten bucks I got a nice syringe and two safe and non-threatening attachments.

I used to get my own syringes when I gave myself allergy shots, so I'm no needle rookie. The Write Fill kit is a lot more safe.

Just a satisfied customer.

Steve.

There are two parts to any injection kit, the syringe (the plastic part with the plunger) and the needle (the tip). If you are not familiar with needle safety, then I would NOT use insulin syringes. Needles are dangerous, and we in the health professions have to do really annoying health safety surveys to make sure we do the right things.

That being said, if you have a friend who is a nurse, then a 1ml or 3ml syringe and a needle are all you need. There are non needle injection devices, which your friendly nurse would know all about.

If you want to get one from a pharmacy, I believe that you need a prescription.

Sometimes you can find a usable needle & syringe in the marinade or barbecue section fo a grocery store. The syringes tend to be big, but otherwise OK.

Syringe filling appears very convenient, but.... Does it dilute the fountain pen experience?

I am sure that this could devolve into purists vs. practicalist discussion.

If it's awkward and messy and gets you stared at, it can only intensify it.

Betty, I've heard first hand from a friend that in general these ink jet refilling kits don't work well, especially the colored ones (tone matching problems). Unless you can find a kit highly recommended by a trusted source, you're better off just buying new cartridges.

The syringe kits mentioned in this thread look very good and reasonably priced, so I suggest just going with one of those. I may do the same. I had bought this very cool glass vintage syringe that works well, but I worry about dropping it!
