Sailor's Full Ink Lines Including Shop Exclusives Compiled In A Post?

People always tell me that inks are easily replaceable, but I haven't found that to be true. Still, at $50 a bottle, the number of back ups in my inventory has also changed. When Tokiwa-matsu was $25/bottle, I bought 5 back ups, and kin-mokusei I got 7. When the value of the dollar dropped a bit, I usually only got one back-up, two tops. Now that it is $50, only when the ink is AMAZING do I get ONE bottle. I deeply miss the days I could get 7 back up bottles, I'll admit.

Either I write less than some of you, or my inclination toward a very fine line conserves more ink than I know! There are eight bottles of ink on the desk in front of me, and three more in the mail, and I am completely confident that even if I live quite a long life, I'm not going to run out of ink. (Should I have an estate plan for my ink?!!) Back before I went ink-crazy, I got about a year out of a bottle of J Herbin. I guess I write about five to ten pages of fairly small print in a week. My (extreme) weakness is peer influence, so that something like migo's throwaway comment on Tokiwa-matsu makes me want to get it. I am not a big green fan, and I had decided to draw the line on Four Seasons, but now I want to move the line juuuuust one more bottle down, ha.

My jaw dropped when I heard that you had to pay that much for Sailor standard inks. In my local online store, I pay SEK119 for Sky High and Peche (USD14), and SEK125 for the 4 seasons inks. They don't sell outside Scandinavia, so maybe I have to go China and hawk the inks on Fleabay…

All inks are easily replaceable. Not all inks are easily replicable.

As much as I love Epinard, there are enough greens out there that, should I somehow get through a quarter of a liter of spinachy writing juice, I know I will find something that is usable in a pleasing green.

Some would say that one only has to look at Yama-dori to see a decent counter-example to my position; others would look up from a half-empty bottle of Tsuki-yo, with the word "Meh" written repeatedly using the other half.

To each their own. To me, Epinard, and hopefully better planning in the future.

Perhaps everyone is linked in, and knows this, but Bung-box reports on their FB page that they have their inks available at the DAIKANYAMA TSUTAYA Books shop in Tokyo. It has books, CDs, and video, a very nice looking stationary shop including pens and inks. They seem to have colors that haven't been around in a while in addition to the usual Ink of Witch, Dandyism, and some others. They have coffee, but it's Starbucks :crybaby:

I think they are also showing pictures of their inks at their shop, but their web page says everything is sold out. They may also have a new seasonal ink, but they don't say what that might be. Perhaps the automatic translation is in error.

So it appears that unless you are in Japan, or have someone in Japan who will visit the store and purchase for you, the availability of these inks has gone down for the rest of us. Yes, Vanness has some of the inks (ten listed, five out of stock), so if you feel it's justified to pay $40 for a bottle of ink, then you have some options.

Yes, the pictures on their web site show a wonderful shop. I think spread across three buildings, which themselves are works of art.

Another thought experiment, perhaps: If you had a chance to stock up on Your Very Favorite Ink™ just as it was discontinued, how many bottles would you buy to ensure a lifetime supply? Would that number change if it were a popular ink?

I'd probably buy maybe 5 bottles of my favorites. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't outlive a supply like that (unless a bottle of the stuff was broken or otherwise spilled). Doesn't matter to me if they're popular or unpopular, cheap or expensive. I would just want to make sure that I wouldn't be likely to run out of them if they were being discontinued :-).

well it looks like the ink clinic/atelier made inks are now "censored" in the internet so no more ink identity thefts will be had on Sailor's watch and I'm happy with it

just so you people who like to browse JP twitter and the ink marsh hashtag find tapped labels of ink atelier inks its because of the number code

hi! Now can someone of you experts in Sailor inks explain how is it possible that a bottle of a red Sailor Ink has already reached 140usd in an on line auction?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAILOR-Jentle-Miya-Ink-Bottle-Fountain-Pen-Fujisan-Sengentaisha-Japan-Red-/252261527634

What is special about this particular ink?

This ink is exclusive to Bungu No Kura Rihei store. I think they stopped stocking the inks some time ago. Maybe that's why this is expensive?

Well, it's expensive because someone really really wanted it, as well as the bottle it's in. That's the sum of it.

I've seen some Bung Box go for crazy amounts lately, along with some other inks, but if the bidders would be patient or use a forwarding service in Japan, they'd get the inks at reasonable (enough) prices. However, some want the inks now and others want it in a diamond shaped bottle--hey, what ever makes them happy, right?

The Rihei Mt Fuji inks have been sold out for some time (many, many, many months).

They still list them on the web site, but all state "sold out". And they still show the jewel bottles which are known to be unavailable.

I'm not sure if this is to give locals a fighting chance to buy the inks, but I've found that contacting the shops directly (when they understand English) is better than referring to their websites for ink availability--they don't always update their sites. It also appears that some shops, to my dismay, are still using diamond bottles, (Quadrifolio & Cigar just arrived today).

I kind of imagined that that was the way it was. I don't blame them at all.

I presume Sailor kept the last of their diamond bottles for certain customers, since as I understand those bottles are no longer being manufactured. Whether Sailor will change that is unknown.

I'm a bit confounded by the bottle issue at this point. Maybe another company bought the mold and is selling bottles to Sailor for a reasonable price? In any event, I saw images of Cigar in a jar bottle floating around on the internet, so I figured that's what I'd get. Alas, it was not so.

On another note, it appears that Bung Box has re-released Sakurasaku/ Cherry Blossom Pink in a jar bottle for a limited time. It was listed in their Amazon shop, but has sold out--I expect they'll restock soon since I've not read mention of severely limited quantities this time around. (100 bottles only last year). I decided against purchase since it's likely Vanness may get some bottles in and I read in a recent review that the ink runs dry. Hate dry inks.

Well that is confusing. I wish Sailor would just say what is happening. I thought too that someone else might make the bottles. Time will tell.

Their Amazon site now has Valentine's Choco Brown. $35.55+$22.08 shipping!

And I'm with you on dry inks. A definite no-no here. Sailor has definitely spoiled me.
