Maruzen regular line and LE inks.

The three LE Maruzen inks that I know are Nihombashi Akane (300 bottles) still available, Nihombashi River Blue (300 bottles, I think), sold out, and Nihombashi Kirin (200 bottles), sold out. The regular production inks have a round label on the box and a printed label on the bottle cap. The LE inks, at least these three, have a hexagonal label on the box and the ink name is hand written on the bottle cap label.

Perhaps some explanation is in order. Each year for the past several years, various stationery and Department stores in Japan host fountain pen fairs. Many of these stores have limited edition inks and or pens commissioned for each year's event. This year's event at Maruzen featured around half a dozen, possibly more, limited edition pens. Makers of these LE pens include Sailor, Nakaya, Ohashido and several European makers as well.

To the best of my incomplete knowledge, Sailor is the only company that makes these LE event inks. I do not when these pen fairs began nor when LE pens or inks started to be commissioned for them other than they stretch back to a time long before I developed an interest in either. Knowing this, it is my belief that someone starting out in recent years to collect the entire ink line has embarked upon a journey to an impossible to attain goal.

Many of the inks, many, many more than we know are loooooonnng since sold out. Probably so for some before blogs and the like made it possible to upload pics and info on them. The only way to gain knowledge on even the existence of some inks would be to comb the used book stores in Japan for back issues of the magazines where these pen fairs were advertised. Not impossible but the nearest thing to it for most of us of humble means and real jobs. There are just too many colors, made for too many stores, made of too small a quantity for too many years.

Yes, but that only shows their upcoming events. But it does give one an idea of just how busy they are. It should be noted that not all of these would have inks made for it.

Thanks!

They told when I got my ink mafe that they post their schedule only a month in advance and when I've checked that was true. I guess they decide their schedule longer in advance now.

Yep! That's the Eternal Blue I was thinking of. I have a bottle and I absolutely LOVE it. You've convinced me to grab one or two back ups. :) Thanks!

Well, I've given up on getting all of these fancy inks. I'll just keep plugging away at the NON limited edition ones, slowly, and that's it. <shrug> I'll compare the ones I have and let the rest go.

good enough because one thing is certain thus far the only missing inks are the Athena inks... and all in all these inks are worth 4K USD at a commutative local price

Reading this thread, I couldn't resist ordering a try-out of the Kobe inks. No better place to start, than #1 Rokko Green, which is ideal for me, as I like green inks.

Ordered from cool-japan, it took just five days for delivery. :notworthy1:

The shading in the ink is superb!

On the strength of this, I have a bottle of #49 Kitano Olive Green on its way.

Thanks everyone for the introduction to Kobe ink.

good to know you find this thread useful :X well unless somebody posts the Athena inks here then the thread I would say is "complete" and I do not actually wish to show the inks that people got from the ink clinics but the codes for their inks are posted as again I said I do not wish to privy into

I was in Maruzen's Matsudo store today and asked for the complete list of Maruzen inks. They did not have it available. I May have a chance to stop by one of the big Tokyo stores Thursday. If not, I'll have to wait till next week to verify the list.

I do think Bung Box Dandyism is the closest ink I've seen to MBRG, for the record. I did a comparison of all three that was really useful. It's lurking somewhere in the comparison thread, and I think it's linked to in the Dandyism review I posted.

No argument there. I've seen your comparison. But, I still think Rokko is the best replacement for MB Racing Green. I can get a 50ml of Rokko shipped to my door for $20. Dandyism is 50% -100% more expensive. :P

I have a question. I think Maruzen is the name of the store and they have more than one location. And, each location can have a different set of exclusive Sailor-made inks. The question is, where does the name Athena fit into all this? Is it like our Target stores here are actually owned by a company named Dayton-Hudson. One of their "store brands" is Archer Farms. Archer Farms products might be made by yet another company.

It gets confusing when some people refer to it as Athena Akane and another calls it Maruzen Akane. Just curious.

Don't mind the feathering on Rokko Green... the Nemosyne cards are not that FP friendly (think of it .. like watercolor paper).. Is amazing how well the other inks look thou.

Maruzen inks are also known as Athena which dates a long long history as long as it's sold as Maruzen exclusive it's an Athena ink be it Platinum made or Sailor made if the history about the inks is to be believed Platinum was the first one to make inks for Maruzen before shifting to Sailor and yes I wont deny that like bungbox, maruzen may have LE inks for that branch especially if an ink clinic was held on x branch
