The black, dark brown, and dark blue of those look like possibilities. Any writing samples anywhere?

Are these inks part of the Obtainium kind or the Unobtainium kind? As in can Atsu or WRE get them or not?

Thank you Algester for continuing to find these store exclusive! This is one of my favorite threads so I am very happy that you keep updating it :)

Wow! Even more! Some of those look really nice.

On a different note, I don't remember if we have been posting LE inks or not, but I am going to now. Hope not to offend, but here is Maruzen Nihombashi Midori (Jade Green). It appears as much browner on my iPad than in real life.attachicon.gifimage.jpg

And thank you Tinjapan for the writing samples of these hard to find LEs!

I still haven't been able to find writing samples of the new Usagiya's that Algester posted but I did come across writing samples of some of the older ones.

These are from Rakuten:

And here are some additional photos of the Setouchi Marine Blue from a reviewer's blog (blog link below):

EDIT found one more of Setouchi Marine Blue (I'm guessing the colors in the photo have been overly saturated but it does show some sheen)

Thanks for finding those links and information bstnnyc. Have you had a chance to try any of them (the older ones)? How about anyone else? And I wonder too, how different are they are from e.g. Kobe, Pen and Message, Kingdom Note, Maruzen. There seems to be variation in the kinds of inks Sailor makes for different stores. I wonder where these fall in that continuum.

I haven't tried them yet, but I may give in and order one of the two blues next month (the other option is to go for one of the Joyful-2 inks.) There are so many Sailors that I want to try and I've already spent half of my ink budget for the year on them!

Yes I understand that sentiment (about so many nice Sailor inks)! My ink budget is at zero right now, but look forward to getting some of these in a few months. Thanks for your research.

Wow. I'd liked some demonstrations of Sailor Apricot but what a stunning line they offer! They're beautifully presented as well. Outstanding.

Definitely something I'll look in to in the future!

It's no longer available? That's a real shame :( I don't know why they'd phase out a popular ink.

the Usagiya ones are available from WRE - I just put in an order for all of them.

I decided to try these out before the Joyful ones. I'll allow myself to buy the joyful ones when I finally get off my butt and sell samples of the inks I have that I won't use enough of. But I did sell a large order of stationery to an Army base (for military men/women to write home to their spouses!) that let me cover most of the cost of the Usagiya ones. :D

How can I buy your samples, Saskia?

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

I'm excited and thankful that you will be trying the Usagiyas first! I will wait to hear what you think of them then before deciding on which of the blues to order (or depending on your experience neither or possibly both haha :P )

PS Congratulations on the stationery order!

Hi MikeGB don't worry about the Apricot! It's a beautiful ink (that I wish Sailor kept in their Jentle line too) but thankfully they do offer some close enough alternatives to switch to once our bottles are depleted.

Check out Saskia_Madding's photos of the Onago Iro Honey:

or Sam Capote's comparison of Apricot and the Kobe #25:

or ypsilanti's photo of Kobe# 25 on fpgeeks: (you will need to be logged in to see the photos; I can post photos if you don't have access)

Both alternatives are made by Sailor and can be ordered through Atsu (seller cool-japan) on eBay by messaging him directly (for the OI Honey) or by using the "Buy it Now" feature (for the Kobe#25) in his eBay store. I have not tried either, but one factor that you may want to consider as you decide on a replacement for Apricot is price (Honey is about double the cost of Kobe# 25 when ordering to the US through cool-japan). I hope this helps!

Excellent, thank you. I'll have to try one of those out!
