Who wouldn't ship it from/to where, the Japan Post Office to the US? We can ship ink domestically in Japan, just not overseas.

This may not be factual, but this is the thinking of the postal service as told to me by the postal clerk dealing with me on this.

"Ink" is a very broad group. Some may contain chemicals which may be combustable under certain circumstamces. Therefore, it is the sender's responsibility to get the manufacturers to produce the documents necessary to prove that what ever is to be sent is safe for shipment.

That is the mindset.

How are Cool Japan and others sell online, I can gues but do not know. But as these seem to be newly enforced postal / custom regulations, they may not yet be universally implemented. As reported by my friend in Singapore, this is new there and is hurting many small business. At least one has reported on this thread that they had their ink order cancelled.

It obviously doesn't matter that FP ink is 99% water.

Japan Post shipping overseas will be handled by EMS as far as my experience goes

it goes like

Exporting Country PO ->EMS->Importing Country PO but this is for small items only

.

Yes, that is true. It was they who first told me that Sailor FP ink requires MSDS forms. I learned later that FedEx has the same requirement.

I'm starting to wonder if it's just a couple local officials getting their panties in a twist. After searching through all of the US postal and customs codes I can't find anything bang the international shipment, to or from, of liquids without an MSDS. In addition my White Rabbit just shipped me another four bottles of Sailor ink without issue. I think this may just be a few local authorities in Japan who are either ignorant or trying to screw over individuals. This of course only applies to shipping to and from the US.

ooooooooooooooooo ... what inks did you get, alarickc? I just got the last SankoDo ones I was interested in - Canal Brown, Sepia, Gray, Ozone Blue, and Blue-Gray. I also got Sei-ran and Shin-zan. :D

Next I'm getting some back ups of KN, P+M, OI, and IB inks, before I forge out into a whole new store's offering of Sailors.

I picked up the Cicada, Butterfly, Duck, and Pheasant inks from Kingdom Note. I was going to get around twelve others, but then I decided to get two Pelikans instead. If I had gone ahead with all the ink I was originally thinking of my ink collection would have been worth more than my pen collection. That just doesn't seem right to me when one own multiple Nakayas. What have I become... :lticaptd:

I've never heard any stories of ink exploding, imploding or spontaneously combusting. Leaking, burping and splotching, of course, but nothing fatal.

It's a snipe hunt, this new problem shipping ink. Hopefully it will right itself in time, for all our sakes. Borrowing an old Irish saying - Eeejets!

The Mochi Green from Voice came in today!

(As far as ordering from retailers, I haven't had any problems)

This ink was not as dark as I expected. From the pictures it looked like a nice saturated, condensed green tea colour, whereas this was almost emerald when fresh and dried to a kind of faded jade with a tinge of yellow. I don't know if it's the pen I was using (Parker 45 with a stub nib), and will try it in a different pen. The shading is fantastic, though!

I asked the salesperson to include some written samples of Azuki Mochi and Eggplant Purple, too. I think I might pick up the Azuki, I like the colour.

Thank you for the good writing samples nyx_h! Like you I was more excited about the ink from the website photos; I don't think I would use it much, so I'm happy you shared the pics!

It's a little hard to tell -- is the Azuki a reddish-brown? I'm assuming that it's named for the red bean paste that fills certain kinds of mochi.

She wrote it on a yellowish paper that looks like it came from a sketchbook, and on this, yes, it looks like a deep burgundy-maroon, exactly like red bean paste. Currently I don't have any pens inked with BungBox Ruby - I'll fill one soon and make a small comparison on the same card she wrote on.

Thanks for the writing sample, nyx_h! I agree that it's not the most exciting green. Nice shading, though. Azuki Mochi looks like it could be promising!

I'm starting to think my Parker was not dried enough and the ink is coming out diluted. Let me wash, dry and fill a different pen and write out a sample again. Will be a couple days :P

Sorry to spam!

I had a spare Pilot pen so I filled that with the green. Here are the results:

I also wanted to show how different the ink looked after it had dried compared to when it was fresh:

Not the most exciting ink (I have so many yellowish greens, I'm sick of 'em!), but not the worst either. In other news, someone convince me to get BungBox Sapphire! :P

Wow, that is quite different! I like version 2.

Yes, the one saying "green new" is when the ink has just left the pen, "green dried" is when it dries like 5 seconds later. I much prefer how it looks when it's fresh, too. Wish it didn't dry to that yellow tinge.
