Most of you are aware of this, but cool_japan is offering all 50 Kobe inks on eBay for $999.99, if somebody is looking for an instant ink collection.

No savings whatsoever... Isn't he selling them at $20/each?

Those look great, bestinnyc! I think next payday I'll snag some Onago Iro back ups, and About To Leave is definitely on that list. :) I know the purple doesn't sheen much, but the colour is just so lovely that I didn't even care. Are you liking the colour at least?

I love the color! (And I usually have a difficult time finding a purple - as much as I like them in life, for some reason, depending on the shade, I tend to either get bored with them or blinded by them after an entire page of notes.) At first, I thought Shigure came very close to what I was looking for, but it was missing a little spark that the SankoDo definitely has. I would need to do a comparison to be sure but I think the SankoDo is a little redder and a little darker and its sheen although subtle is more prominent than Shigure's and is of a very interesting kind of greenish gold that I have not yet come across. Plus, the ink flow is just beautiful, so my search for a purple is done - once again I need to thank you, because I would have never tried it without the writing samples your posted!

So how do I buy the About To Leave ink? I'm very fond of light blues and that sheen looks amazing. I've tried searching Rakuten for some of these inks, but with little success. It seems the search engine isn't that great and I have no knowledge whatsoever of the Japanese language.

You noticed that, too. The only rationale for buying this is that you can get inks he is not selling individually, or that you just have to have one of everything. From what others have posted, I gather that cool-japan is open to special orders for colors not listed on eBay, if you contact him directly.

Is the ink from this store on this page? Sorry if it is, but I've just seen it and thought I'd share. They've another ink as well, a brown one. I'm liking the looks of the green....sigh!

Ohhh the egplant purple seems to be from one of those ink clinics that sailor does... i'm not sire if making a profit out of it is legal as really it was meant for personal consumption hence I havent posted anything similar if you want there are loads of inks with number codes in the internet thus far I found 10-ish imks but I dont want to privy in such matters

And I think the seller would remove the sticker on the cap because thats basically the "order" code of the ink which you can use from your supposed local sailor retailer to sell you that ink but I'm not sure how that works if your a foreigner "who just happens to attend an ink clinic session"

But thats just how far I know so I'm not going to jump at this boat just yet yes its made by Sailor's ink master Osamu Ishimura but expect that these inks maybe available in small quantities... 2-10 bottles

However I personally don't have a stand on what voice is doing as I havent done something like what he's doing so I would say that TinJapan should voice out his opinion of you can openly sell inks procured via an ink clinic as I clearly do not know any repercautions of doing so, but to someone who has experience have someone make his own personal color and the rules and regulations behind it

Hi Uncial you can find ordering information for the different Sailor inks in the link in Saskia_Madding's signature. For the Onago-Iro About to Leave, I emailed Atsu from cool-japan on ebay. (There is a link to his ebay page in Saskia's link.) He's wonderful to work with and will contact Sailor directly for you to place the order for this ink. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Sorry, have been crazy busy and way behind in this thread. I didn't find the beginning of the discusion on the ink blending event inks but can tell you how it works.

Your custom blended ink will come with a business card with the name (given by you) and stovk number provided by the master blender. To get more made you must go to certain stores and order it by name and number. I was unable to do so at Kingdom Note and Muruzen in the Isetan Department Store in Matsudo. I succeeded in ordering extra bottles at Itoya's main store and their store in Shinjuku Odakyu Department Store. Once ordered, i was told to expect a wait of two weeks. However, my last order was ready the very next day! He must have been bored that night.

However, recent changes in postal regulations may have killed any such plan. I am writing about this offline and will cut and past it to this thread soon.

A few months go I was asked about the possibility of helping put together a group buy of Sailor inks for members of FPN. In order to see if individuals, not just companies, could mail bottled ink, I bought a bottle of Kingdom Note ink and took it to the Shinjuku Post Office. After some checking, they told me that I could mail bottled ink and even weighed it for me to help with figuring postage.

While the group buy has not materialized, I have been shipping small numbers of bottles to a few people who were interested in the group buy. I have sent several packages without any problems what so ever to Canada and the US.

Three weeks ago, however, I hit a snag. Trying to mail Sailor ink to a FPNer in Singapore, the PO told me that a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) was required. A well known, local stationery shop contacted Sailor on my behalf and discovered that Sailor does not have MSDS forms as they are not required for domestic shipments here in Japan.

Not being able to mail them, I went to one of the very, very few FedEx offices in Tokyo. They too required MSDS for ink shipments to Singapore and refused to accept the package.

Thinking that this was a Singapore issue seemed to be confirmed when the FPNer I was trading ink with sent the follow in a series of emails.

"Bad news. FedEx rejected the MSDS because it does not come with travel safety information for the liquids. I asked noodler's again and they only have this MSDS available. I begged FedEx to determine that it is safe for travel by reading the MSDS but they said they can't determine it's safe and they refuse to budge without the inks getting checked for safety, which I don't even know where to get done. FedEx would have sent the ink if the MSDS form had the information regarding the safety of the inks during transport - that is what they told me. However, the MSDS form only had information about the inks themselves, and no other information about whether they could be transported etc. The thing is, I cannot send liquids anywhere because I am in Singapore. Singapore doesn't allow liquids to travel via the postal office anymore. Not even within Singapore. They didn't give me any reason for it - just that it is no longer allowed. I had a look online and lots of people are unable to send liquids out so their small businesses are suffering".

Not being able to ship direct to Singapore, I sent them to the US ten days ago for transshipment on to Singapore. The receiver believes that this is still possible as they routinely buy inks from the US.

However, yesterday I ran into the same problem mailing ink to addresses in the US and Canada. After a phone call to the main post office and a follow up to confirm, MSDS forms are required for any liquid in a bottle, regardless of size or overseas destination Upon being informed that I had just mailed a box of the same ink to the US just over a week ago and that I had contacted Sailor and they do not have MSDS forms for their inks, the postal clerk surmised that either Sailor inks do not need them as their chemical composition is known by the customs officials of the various countries they ship to or that I have just been lucky and my previous shipments slipped through undetected. He accepted the packages but cautioned that the international postage would not be refunded should these be refused by their destination customs officials. He took the added precaution of asking what time during the day is best to contact me if, in his opinion 'when', they are returned to Japan.

I wonder if I have just stumbled across the reason Sailor inks are so hard to get outside of Japan and why several have reported recent orders of Sailor ink being cancelled.

Has anyone else run into this?

It would appear that the United States does not have a monopoly on brainless government bureaucrats with overwhelming control issues. These are the same fools that would ship nitroglycerine with an MSDS, but not Dandyism without one.
