Doesn't Athena also have a blue-black? Hm. I'll have to check. I did put up reviews of all those except sepia and renga. check the ink review index if you're curious.

Also, I just inked up my Pen + Message inks and a lot of them are awesome. I also found that Cigar looks as close to Rikyu-cha as I've ever seen. Sadly, I got the last bottle (they had to call the store and the store clerks actually found one single bottle lying around in the back room), and I don't know if they are going to make more.

I really have to introduce you ladies to the Pilot POsting nib. Very environmentally friendly, one bottle of ink will last a decade or so :P

Of cigar? When did you buy them? I'd love to get another one.

I actually might be at fault. My ink-smuggler friend bought three, he kept one and send two my way. He is a GOOD friend..

Ah, that makes sense. But *when*? :P

I'll just have to content myself with my 4 bottles of Rikyu-cha I suppose. :P I'm going to go do a comparison right now!

ETA: they are really REALLY close, but Cigar is a teeny tiny bit greener and darker. Only someone really looking could tell most of the time, though there are some instances where they look quite different. It's strange.

I can't tell which I prefer. I'd need to use each one a bit more before I could make a decision.

I have a bottle, small, of their Blue Black. Once, every store had a large supply on display. Recently I have only seen it at one of their stores recently and then only two bottles. On one of the threads here at FPN someone wrote that it is relabeled Platinum blue black and that they were of limited ...relabeling (?). The bottle sure looks like the older, smaller Platinum ink but the ink doesn't seem the same. I haven't bothered to try to match the two nor even try them out in the same pen, so they very well could be the same. However, the Maruzen Athena blue black smells like Pilot's blue black.

Two or three years ago Maruzen devoted a large amount of shelf space for their own line of inks. Now only a couple of bottles of some of the colors can be found, none of the five stores I frequently visit have the full line on display. They assure me that they haven't been discontinued but say that they do not know if more will be ordered once the current stock runs out.

should I update the OP post or just leave it like that?

Up to you, it's your post.

The link that Algester posted shows Maruzen Athena blue black. The bottle clearly has Pilot on the side and the conversation starts of with a statement saying that it is made by Pilot. So, it seems that it is made by Pilot and if you look at the comparison between the two, they look the same. Have had time to try to read the discussion, my Japanese being just so so at best, but it appears that they are same. Still doesn't solve the question of if it is still being bottled for Maruzen or not. I'm guessing not based on the limited number of bottles found at just the one store.

It looks like a shop called Morita might have some exclusives. I just got a newsletter from the blog Inklode in which he mentioned visiting the shop (along with the Nagasawa Kobe store) and buying an ink he called Sailor Morita Shade Green. Presumably it'll be reviewed on his site eventually.

Anyone know what the Writing Lab ink in this picture is? It doesn't really look like Quadrifoglio, but maybe it is.

The title of the picture says.. "Shade Green comparison with Quadrifoglio"
