I've received a few new inks this month and have been pleasantly surprised by most of them. The first picture is a photograph, taken using my Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and the second is a scan - I know which one I'll stick to in future!

I had a torrid time with my Platinum Plaisir - I ordered a green one with a 0.5 nib. I loved the packaging and the presentation for a £10 pen, but unfortunately it behaved as such - scratchy and dry and horrible. A search of here and other places suggested this was an exception, so I bought myself 3 Preppys - a 0.5 green that would sit in my Plaisir's body if it turned out to be nice, a 0.5 blue-black and a 0.3 yellow. I couldn't be more impressed with all three of them - I know the build quality isn't exactly robust, but they are semi-disposable I suppose. I've bought international standard adapters so that, when their proprietary cartridges run out, I can use any ink I want (within reason). The offending Plaisir nib and feed got chucked away, and the section received a highlighter tip and went in the unused Preppy barrel. It's still a weird colour so I think there's something up with the cartridge too, but it'll get used until it runs out, then I'll use the glorious Preppy highlighter cartridges - they're really bright and I love a cheap refillable highlighter.

Anyway, that's probably TL;DR for most of you - here are the pictures:

... I'm in English teacher FFS.

First, it had to happen. : ) I'm "in" English teacher?

Was reading recently how Hitler's proofreaders were, of course, grammar Nazis.

(And what is FFS?)

That Diamine Deep Dark Orange really looks tempting. Thanks for the examples.

I definitely had a bad day today.

Also, FFS is an initialism for something we're not allowed to type on here.

And yeah, I can't believe quite how good the Deep Dark Orange is. I'm going to have to try it in a few more pens as my Apogee is very easy to please!

Finally, I should mention that the paper is Oxford 90gsm - it was buy two get a third free at Sainsbury's a week or two back.

I also picked up some Deep Dark Orange lately and am really impressed by it. It's vibrant and not too brown, like I worried it might be.

English is "weird." The "i before e" rule does not always apply. In fact, all rules in English may as well be summed up as "don't always apply."

Anyway, a lovely spread of inks! I'm fond of my bottle of Diamine Salamander. It seems much darker, nearly black when using a finer nib, and more green when using a medium nib (or larger, but I've only tried it in medium down to extra fine). I am digging the Deep Dark Orange! Orange isn't normally my color, but it's been winning me over lately. I'll just tack this one onto my ever-expanding wishlist.

I recall reading many years back, that someone ran the dictionary thru the computer to check some of these old english spelling "rules."

It turned out that several/many were false.

But until the computer could brute force its way thru a dictionary, no one could contradict the teachers and others who said it.

Of course, now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it.

Nice comparison...thank you.

I recently got two Preppys, one 03 and one 05, in green. I found that the line laid down by the 03, was just too light for use...while the 05 was wonderful. Maybe it was just the flow, and I should try another 03. Hmmm.

This was exactly the problem with my 0.5 green Plaisir, which is essentially the same pen with an aluminium barrel and cap. It was dry, scratchy and faint. The Preppy was smooth, wet and vibrant from the off so the nib, feed and section went into the Plaisir and now it's all good! The 0.5 blue black and 0.3 yellow are awesome too. I'm going to buy a job lot and use them as prizes for my students next year.

Yes, I think I shall order another 03, and see how it goes.

The job lot as prizes for your students sounds like a great idea.
