Osmia Piston Repair

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I have an Osmia supra 74 which is piston filler. The knob won't turn and I want to remove the piston unit to see what's wrong. Thing is, I don't know how. It has a small hole near the knob and I have put a paperclip in there but I can't understand what to do next. I have seen that you have to use a plyer and I have, but I have seen no result.

Looks the piston assembly screws in the barrel with right hand threads;

The transversal bore in the threaded part is effectively used to screw the filler out.

When should however gently heat the barrel end up to 50- 60C to get the piston assembly out.

Personally I don't use the transversal bore to get the piston unit out, since one easily damages the threads.

A better removal approach is using a slitted (brass) nut which fits over the complete length of the exposed blind cap threads.

Using a set of pinchers on the nut one normally easily screws the filler unit out.

Wishing you success !

Thanks a lot! About the heating, which is your prefered method of doing it?

Yup, I tried your method but no result. I may be doing something wrong though, care to explain exactly what you do with the paperclip and the plyers? Is there a chance that the piston in my pen is not meant tobe removed?
