I plan to make my way toward Dallas on Wednesday and arrive on Thursday. I may need to take in the Bush museum Thursday. I've been to Lincoln and Eisenhower. I so need a pen show fix.

Regards,

May I at the risk of being to dense offer a suggestion. Hit the Dallas Pen Show website and on the first page on the right side is a hot link for vendors. Tap the link andVoila' a list magically appears of those who will be exhibiting.

Less than a week away now! I don't know which I'm looking forward to more - being in Pen Heaven or getting to meet FPN folks.

Life's too short to use crappy pens.  -carlos.q

Hi guys!

I will be attending the Dallas Pen Show for the full duration, and it will be my first Pen Show ever! I am so excited to meet all of you, and I would love to attend a get-together.

My main mission will be to acquire some affordable vintage flex. I already have Ballerina, my Sheaffer Jr, but she wants me to adopt some siblings for her to play with ;) If any of you have a pen that has great flex but is not cosmetically collector-grade, please bring them with you, as I am dying to meet them!

So, what's your point?

Can't wait. Money set aside. I am either going to pick up a Visconti with the dreamtouch nib or a Delta. I will be visiting Bryant. Third year attending.

Do vendors trade at the shows? I never thought to ask. I have some Esterbrook items I am wanting to thin out.

Thanks,

Mike

Some do, but don't expect to make anywhere near full retail on them. If you just want to get rid of a bunch at once with little hassle, then it might work for you, otherwise, I suggest trying the classifieds and you will likely get more money with a little more effort.

I took a table this year, and I'm officially retiring my vintage Italian pen collecting days, and heading into American pens, particularly good quality 2nd tier pens. I'll have a case (48) vintage Italian pens for sale, including a few from my personal stash.

So, if long flexible nibs and beautiful celluloids are your thing, stop by my table. And bring your old American Swans, I'm a buyer.

Question from a first-timer: Should I bring my pen shopping budget as cash, or do vendors accept plastic?

Always bring cash. Most do not accept plastic. Some (like us) do, so what a lot of people do is go around and pay with plastic first, then finish off with cash.

It depends - there are a few that accept cards (Dromgooles and the Andersons off the top of my head) Basically, the retailers who take plastic in non pen show life are more likely to be set up for them at the show. Some will do checks. But the conventional wisdom is bring enough cash. The individual collector/sellers and smaller vendors and vintage pen dealers are generally cash only. How much is enough? :lticaptd:

There's an ATM in the lobby if it turns out you answered above question wrong. Dangerous.

My general rule was to establish your budget well enough in advance, then double it and add $100. That should do it. :)

Some of us are taking cards now. Paypal has a card reader that lets you use your mobile phone or tablet - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But cash is king.

Ahhh, but did you stick to it? (You don't have to answer that. ;) )

And I'm sure I'll be leaving at least part of my budget at your table - hoping for a bottle of Yama Dori at a minimum.
